I have never been a big fan of coated blades. I know they have a purpose, but I like the look of naked steel :) I bought some Jasco paint and epoxy remover, and several grades of wet/dry sandpaper, then went to town on my HR. First off, for those who like the black coating, don't worry, it will take FOREVER to come off! Finally got it stripped/scraped/sanded off, then went to town with finer and finer grades of paper. I got it down to 600 grit with WD40, and got a sweet user grade satin finish. It took forever and tons of elbow grease, but I like it so much, I had to strip my CT too! Only with the CT, I stripped off the coating, and went right to the fine paper and WD40, which left an awesome grey finish on the blade. But on the flat near the spine, and down by the choil, it has a grained damascus look to it. I wish I had a way to post pics, but I'm very happy with the way they came out. And yeah, the CT has a cool temper line under there!

The best I can do is try and put them in my flatbed scanner, but they won't come out very well. I'll see what I can do, didn't mean to be a tease! ;)

Scans sucked! A friend just got a new digi cam, so I will take some pics this weekend. I'll email them to you Eric, thanks.

Got the pics from TKnife and here they are. They look great, keep them coming.

Great looking knife and great work :D:D

hrm.. my CT and HR may be in danger of being nuded :D :D Sweet looking steel. Sweeter looking lines :D :D

Eric - will Swamp Rat ever offer nude rats?
seems like it would be easier for ya'll (SRKW) to not coat a few. just food for thought though.

forgot to add:

TK: how hard was it to strip coating right at the edge of the handle, seems it may be difficult, unless you may have used something hard under the sandpaper with a very sharp / pronounced corner as a jig.

Thanks Eric for posting the pics! The lighting washed them out a bit. Dave, it was a little difficult at the handle juncture. I used thin strips of sandpaper wrapped around a small flat piece of wood about the size of a popsicle stick. It took about 2 hours each, but if I were to do it again, I could probably do it a little faster since I know what I'm doing (I think!) I'm really happy with the way they came out, and will proabably strip my other black blades too.
