I have some kind of house finch vilage in my patio. After last year I found them making the nest under patio roof and put few pices of wood to make this nest more comfortable it grow into entier vilage - four "bird houses" with four finches famalies. It was fun to have all this little birds famalies buildin their nests, laying eggs, feeding little finches etc. Or just singing on near by tree, fighting each other when one came too close to other female or just ... I should say all this karate-kung-fu things looks like little joke when two little finches fight each other in all three dimentions, full contact, with claws and beaks. However they did not really ingure each other - just boys having fun...

But last Satarday I found three of the nests "visited" by rat. It was graphic and horroble... I need to take care of this rats. Problem is - I am not familiar with this matter at all. I have this poisened bricks which according to instruction I have to feed to rats 10 days 6 to 23 pices a day (8 pices - $6!). It seems like rat suppose to die of obesety? Also I concerns that finches may eat it too and I will get rid of them also. Howevr I see that this things disapper - so probably rats eats it.

Electric trap works and it kills one rat today. Questin is how many of them may be around? And should I clean it after "use" because rat may smell death?

Sticky things does not work - I even found rat traqs on this thing, it probably already dried out...

Are there any other way to deal with it?

Thanks, Vassili.

Poison is a nasty thing. You can inadvertently kill your own or neighbors pets. Not from them eating the poison but from one of them catching one of the dying rats and ingesting the rat poison from the carcas.

Talk to a pest control person about how to most effectively place traps. The spring traps are cheap and work.

I use a posion called bar bait. Leave some out all the time in places where other animals cant get to it. Decon works ok too.

if the neighbors 11 cats manage to get to some of it, well, thats not a bad thing either.

After this electric thing kill one rat - I do not see any rat-related activity. However I saw rat on the wall before and it seems smller that one I found in this electric trap (made by Victor). But now all peanut batter in that trap are not touched and also no poison bait stay where I left them.

I am wondering does it same rat what I saw, just some phsicological effect make me belive the rat in the trap bigger or it was like leader of the pack and now without leader they do not came to my area any more?

Well, anyway I got my revange over finches baby birds...

Thanks, Vassili.

I don't suggest any poisons. They don't work quickly enough, and when they do, the rats can end up dying between the wall boards.

I read about this very thing happening, and the smell was so bad, the wall had to be torn out to remove the rat carcass.
