I have been noticing a rattling in my Kershaw Sweet that has been gradually getting louder. It still works fine, it just rattles like crazy, only when it's open though. I don't remember if it's always done it but does anyone know why it's doing it? I know it's the torsion bar but I couldn't see anything wrong with it when I took it apart.

I just checked my Blackout just out of curiosity, it does it too and I've hardly ever used it, is this just something they normally do?

Hey GW. I had the same problem with my zt 302. This is normal for speed safe knives.I took off the g-10 handle and coated the torsion bar with a little bit of thick grease. Don't need much. Rattle free for over a year now ,with no ill effects!! Hope this helps. One more thing,be sure knife is open before you take it apart!!

Yep, this is what you do to solve the problem.

The rattle is not a problem though, but I do agree, it can get annoying at times.

Open your blade into the locked position before you take it apart, if not, you'll have a heck of a surprise when the pieces go airborn.

I use white lithium grease personally and it works like a charm.

Thats exactly what I used! ............. GW ,as SPXTrader said ,oil will just make a mess. You will not be using the grease for it's intended purpose . You will be using it to give the torsion bar something to stick to . The grease will stick the bar to the inside of the handle. Won't rattle then.

No. Oil is too runny. Automotive grease will work. Stop by a Juffy Lube with a little paper cup and ask for a squirt. You need about as much as the size of a pencil eraser.

I asked ZT/Kershaw exactly what grease they used on their torsion bar. They use either of these two products:

I've had good luck with some standard axle bearing grease that I use on my dirt bike. It was handy and worked great:thumbup:
