Rattlesnake sheath

I recently received a sheath made by Schrade for a folding knife that has a Rattlesnake covering. I've never seen one before and even though it's not comparable to the work that sheathmaker does, it's not too shabby considering it came from Schrade:

Inside the sheath was an LB7 with fat Stag handles:

Because of the file work and the upgrade scales, I would think your knife is either a product of the Schrade custom shop or was customized after the fact, and either way would account for a hand made sort of one of a kind type sheath. I have seen quite a few of the laced Rattler generic type sheath that are made with the snap flap and will accomodate the Buck 110, Schrade LB7 and the similar Puma or any other knife of similar size and shape. That sheath you have is definitely hand made and looks like excellent quality.

Thanks, Paul. You can't tell from the first photo, but the snap is marked Schrade and the belt loop on the back is identical to another sheath I have from a Schrade custom. I'm pretty sure this sheath is original to the knife and was made by Schrade, or made for Schrade.

The file work on the back of the knife is incredible, it wasn't done by a machine like the other fileworked LB7 I posted a month or so ago. There is a serial number on the bolster, but the tang stamp just says LB7, with no indication of it being a custom.

After looking at the close ups, I'd have to agree with you that it is SCHRADE all the way through. I have heard, but cannot prove that big knife companies sometimes sub contract things like sheaths ,but provide things like brand snaps etc. Much like Sullivan does for Randall. Any way it's nice looking.

Maybe LT will comment on that, but I bet you're correct in that piecework like this sheath was probably done in someone's home while they were watching "Days of Our Lives." Just like the beaded sheaths for the Indian series, I can't imagine a Schrade employee doing that kind of work. If so, the sheath might cost more than the knife.
