My first sheath with an inlay; my 5th sheath ever. I'm learning slowly. I like this one a lot. There are few mistakes I really care about, and I'm really into the snakesin! The barbed wire strap is a neat little touch. Sorry to toot my own horn when there are lots of better sheath makers out there, but I'm happy! I bought the rattlesnake from Tandy, where I get everything else for leather work so far.

Nice work bro! Love the snakeskin. Did you have to buy a whole snake, or just a small piece like that?

I bought the whole snake. Didn't see an option to buy just a chunk. So now I can make a matching set of rattlesnake sheaths.

Chuddy: the back is alright. The stitching came out nice and straight, though I could have used a little more leather to have a nice finish on back. This one is like the last sheath I posted which is the rough side of the leather facing out.

Great looking sheath!
The 2007 SE blades would be a perfect match for that combo.

I placed an AD and Meaner SE order at Blade for a Black one with dark grey basket weave in the center. Now I'm thinking the snakeskin would look much better...may have to change it.

How often do think you would have to treat the snakeskin? About once a year?

Uh oh. I did not treat or seal the rattlesnake at all. All the leather is sealed but I figured the snake skin would be ok on its own. I'll let you know if it falls apart. :)

That looks great Mikeymoto! :D

Dont worry about that rattler, the skins that Tandy gets are veggie tanned and very stable. I would suggest an occasional dab of conditioner to keep it supple. If its not too thick you can use the same conditioner that you use on your leather.

Do you use a wax or an acrylic on the leather? Reason I ask is I've had nothing but heartache with acrylic sealers, wondering if I'm the only one. Through use, especially outdoors, it eventually cracks and looks awful. I gave up on it long ago and left it as a by request option. I like the wax better anyhow, less messy. :)

I'm using Super Shene, which I can only assume is an acrylic sealer. So far it works alright for me, but I've only been wearing my own sheaths for a couple months. Thank you for the heads-up on that, and thanks to all for your kind words.

wow looks great! keep up the good work. I will make a decent looking one someday ;)
