I’m sorry to post a whole thread for a question, I’ll take it down if necessary, or relocate to the swamp rat forum.

I’ve been searching for a Ratweiler for awhile now and just came across this one on the “ bay “.

I’m still new around here and could use the expertise of some of you old school HOG’s ..

What generation rat do I have here ? I’m thinking second ? Ultimately I’ll have to strip her down to see , which I’ll probably never do . I plan on using the coating off .

Thank you all in advance for any replies, much appreciated.

That rat bites as well if not better than any other blades I have in the same size . Can’t wait to take it camping and beat on it .

It’s definitely sterile, has the vertical machining on the micarta . The price was too good to pass up ( came with okuden kydex pants as well ). I love SR 101 . This One is a keeper for sure , replaced my R9 .

The very first run had some curvature to the scales, giving them a very nice look. Not sure I've seen a sterile one before, but there has been a lot of bourbon over the dam. Any OG RW is good stuff. And with an okuden sheath? Score!

2nd Gen with the flat scales. The rope cut scales of the 1st gen gave a crowned center of the scale for an overall greater curvature. My experience is the scales should clean up nicely with dish soap and hot water.

Were the gen 2’s through tempered ?

Thank you all for the info by the way .

It should be deferentially heat treated, the first Ratweilers that didn't have the DHT were the satin ones from 2013-14 (?) and later ones

I'd almost call that a gen 1.5. Some of the first gens came out with that flat scale; most toward the end of that production era. That said, there were some very early ones that had that flat scale too.
