I'm looking for my first RW in the exchange. Seems like the newer version has 2 option 3/16 and 1/4 what thickness you guys prefer? how difference in cutting/chopping and overall weight?

A large blade should chop well... so I go with thick on large blades, thin on smaller.

1/4" feels quite blade heavy but chops well. The 3/16" feels livelier in the hand. Both bite well. If I were going to be carrying it all day, 3/16". If just around the yard, probably the 1/4" would be my pick. Especially if there are downed branches or some such that need to be worked.

1/4" I have been using mine like crazy since I got it in February ....great blade! Dave made me a great sheath for it...I carry it around all day on my belt....on hikes and yard work and it feels better then some of the smaller blades I carry from time to time....the only thing was that point on the end of the handle...it was killing my pinky the point sat right in the middle of it when I chopped so I just ground it down just behind the micarta and problem solved...it's one of my favorites.

I like the 3/16. Still chops but not so beefy. I wish they made more anorexic/skinny blades.

3/16 would be my preference. I really like the Ratweiler Proto, which is just about 5/32.
It feels light and fast in hand, still chops well enough for me (I dont do much chopping anyway).
Main use chopping -> 1/4
General walk around -> 3/16
