I've seen both the Ratweiler and the Chopweiler listed on the exchange. Can someone point me to specs to compare the two blades? It would be nice to see the specs as well as possibly the available options both came with. Blade colors & handle type, etc.

Thanks,

Les.

The tip is different, for one. THat's the biggest thing you'll notice. I think the original RW's had allegedly nicer handles. And they probably resell for more $.

I like the Ratweiler better but I am guessing that the Chopweiler has more comfortable grips for long duration usage.

The only thing I can find up there is the original price for the Ratweiler and a link to one pic. I can't find anything in regard to the chopweiler at all.

Possible I'm looking in the wrong place, it is in paddling_mans sticky.

thanks,

Les.

Stickies at the top of this forum. All that info is in there. :)

Basically,
Ratweiler has straight spine, finger grove on handle, thumb ramp. Chopweiler has drop point, no thumb ramp, no finger grove. Both are 1/4" SR101, diferentially harden. The BIG diference is the originally issue of Ratweiler had the very nice patterned (curved) micarta handles. Best looking handles ever made. They were available on Rat Mastif, Ratweiler, Dog Skinner, (maybe desertJack, SAR, and Rat Hunter). I have managed to collect the RatMastif and DogSkinner with the sacred handles.

Edit: See RPN's thread for pictures of same.

Older style handles, rounded micarta:

I like my Mastiff better than my Daddy. It's close, but that Mastiff is sabre ground.

Jason, You are ABSOLUTELY correct, but I still prefer my Daddy over the Mastiff, BUT if there were a sabre RD....it would be the end-all blade!!!

The Ratweiler will never dethroned!

The Chopweiler, while similar in size, cannot hold its own against the Ratweiler. The handle on the Chop is uber uncomfortable due the over exaggerated hump on the spine of the handle. I took mine to a grinder and now its my experiment blade. I ultimately want to shape it like the Desert Jack...not as small but the same profile.

The Ratweiler was a great knife, choke back on that handle and it was like having a large chopper!
