This may be an old and even endlessly rehashed subject, but please take pity on a swamp rat newbie and tell me your preference between the Ratweiler and the M7. I really like the looks of the M7 but the fabled Ratweiler is also intriguing. I want a swamp rat in that size range and am trying to decide which would suit me best. Thanks! (I do know that either would only be available on the secondary market) :D

gottahaveit27,
I do not believe the M7 has ever been released. M6 was the first release. Much smller than the Ratweiler.

Hmmmm...I see what you mean. I think that I am not crazy about the respirene handles though (of course I have no personal experience with them). Don't you guys prefer micarta slabs?

Actually, I prefer Res-C. I just picked up a Busse Basic 7 last week. I love it. Also have a CT and a BR. (Altho while technically the same size and formula, I find the Basic handles more. . . grippy.)

It's ultimately going to come down to a question of liking the M-series handles. Since we've really only seen teh M6, that's hard to say. THe M9 will give us an idea if we'll like the M7. The jury is still out on the M handle for me for now.

Aesthetically, yes. Practically, no . . . at least not on choppers. It's really pretty simple. Res-C absorbs shock. Micarta doesn't.

I like the look and durability of Micarta. I like the weight and shock-absorption of ResC. If I had to pick between them Micarta wins by a whisker.

Regarding the grips, I like the Ratweiler shape over the Mischief shape as you can really get a nice snap on your chops with the fat back end.

Has the Mastiff Chopper come out yet? What larger knives (8" +) have ever been released? I am intrigued at the prospect of a larger chopper with the handles of the rat/chopweiler.

Rat options bigger than the Ratweiler
  • Rat Mastiff - has Ratweiler style handle
  • Rat Daddy - has Ratweiler style handle
  • Battle Rat - has Res C handle
The Mastiff Chopper with Ratweiler Chopper (aka Chopweiler) handles has not been released.
