Rawhide inner sheaths and lacing

Hi , I,ve made a rawhide inner sheath for my antler handled Knife .I,m going to try and make the outer sheath look as much like rawhide as possible . I want to learn to oil or treat rawhide so it will be pliable .I don,t want to turn it to leather if there is a simpler option . I am going to wet rawhide cut it into laces . What treatment can I use to treat the rawhide so it will remain pliable when the water evaporates . I have a rawhide quirt so I know this can be done . Can you help me ?
