I'm looking to reinforce the hold on a tomahawk and a cold steel battle axe with rawhide under the head, can someone tell me the best way to go about wrapping and securing it? Thanks.

Soak the leather in water, pull tightly if yo uare just using leather lace, you can use a series of Blood knots or a simple turk's head band instead of head. Once dried it'll pull tight as epoxy. I'll post more later if you need it. It was long night out....

I bought some rawhide lace some 1/8 inch thick and some 1/4 inch thick both 4 feet long. I'm not familiar with a blood knot ot turk's head band, could you explain it or post a picture? Thanks for the reply.

I meant to type Spanish ring knot, not a turks band, which is very similar. This is a more decorative ring that will stay tight when laced wet and allowed to dry. http://www.hought.com/art.sprk.1.html There is three parts to it and a fairly simple depiction. However you could always do a hang man's noose wrapping and then tuck the remainding leather back through to the top and then cut it or else cut off 3in by whatever the OD of the handle is and wrap it and stich with lace? A lot of options here. Take a look at CS Mods in the search and you'll find several pictures of wrapped handles.

Is it possible to stain rawhide lace and does it interfere with the soaking/wrapping/tightening process?

Site looks nice but I can't find any information on staining rawhide, might just test it out and see what happens.
