Rawhide treatment

Hey y’all, hope all of you guys are doin alright. So I’m currently in the process of making a rawhide knife sheath, but I can’t quite seem to find many tutorials on what treatments to use on rawhide. While not exclusively if at all possible I’d prefer to use some sort of diy or natural concoction, but I’m certainly open to all “angles of attack“ so too speak.
 
We have an extensive collection of rawhide horse tack that we use and use hard. I've been using Ray Holes Vaquero Rawhide Cream for decades. I would highly recommend it. Both sets of reins, the bosalitas (nosebands) and the hobbles behind my wife's leg are braided rawhide. Everything except Nihcole's reins were made by our friend Vince:
