What is the best sealant for a rawhide wrap to protect it from moisture? It's on a brush knife that will see heavy use from time to time.

My favorite - and I've used a lot of rawhide si a 50/50 mix of artist grade linseed oil and artist grade turpentine. You can also add some spar varnish to the mix. Linseed oil and turpentine both have antifungal/antibacterial properties that help preserve the rawhide. Put it on in several thin coats, completely sturating the hide, and allowing it to dry in between each coat.

Thank you, sir! I have the linseed oil on hand. Anyone have a clue where I could get some artist grade turpentine in southwest Florida?

You're welcome.

One other thing make sure the rawhide is completely dry before adding any sealer.
