A couple years ago I purchased small colletion of knives. One was a Ray Beers Custom Tanto with a Damascus blade. I was told that it was purchased in NY at one of the large shows in the late 80's - early 90's. The grip is Ivory and I am not sure what type of wood was used. Markings are RB on one side and 012 one the other. Can anyone tell me something about the knives wood & blade pattern. Also I would like to know the ~ value. Thanks in advance. :D

Ray Beers was a pretty active maker during the '80's.
His claim to fame was designing knives for the Frankin Mint and also making a knife for Pope John Paul II.
His knives seem well made. I am not sure he forged that Damascus.

You can contact him at the address above for approximate replacement value.

Anthony, Thank you for the information. Just a bit of a no brainer on my part, I should have searched on his name.

I have a couple of his knives. His heat treating at the time was outstanding by todays standards . He made a Japanese style knife for a large fillet . I was in Loreto Mexico and I did the better share of filleting a thousand pounds of tuna and never touched the blade. His skills were outstanding, in ergonomics for his prime. Nice Knife , keep it if you can.

He was an engineer, think he retired to Fla.

His grinding skills were very, very good........he could make the same exact knife over and over, something I am still working on after 25 years!!!! :p

I have a small dagger, with engraving by Old Dominion, that I picked up from EBay a couple of years back for about $ 350. The sheath has a Bob Engnath scrim of an elephant. Here it is:

I think he did make (makes?) a great knife for an excellent price.

I have one of his knives also. Very well made. As was mentioned very precise grind.

Thank you all for you helping. Marcel that was a great buy and a beautiful dagger! Since it was made ~ 15 - 20 years ago I would like to know what the members think the fair market value is on the Tanto in todays market? Any information would help.

check this link out on Ebay. not the exact knife but similar not enough info and the photo is bad and I doubt it will sell as I think it is overpriced.

HELLA funny, Murray!:D

The knife in that ebay link is worth somewhere around $500.00-$600.00 by my estimation, no higher, and could be as little as $300.00....I think Dave Harvey from Nordic Knives would be an EXCELLENT person to ask about the value of this knife.

Best Regards,
