Long time knife lover but new to these forums. I have a Ray Beers Tanto made in the 80s that I have a few questions about. Is the Ray Beers from Michigan the same as the Ray Beers in Arizona? Does anyone know what steels he used? Mine is a stainless Tanto with cherry handle #24. It's about 8" long.
Any info or history about this maker would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I would not sell this knife as it was a gift from a dear friend. More interested in Ray Beers info.

I think that was made by the Ray Beers from the Baltimore ,Md. area. He always had a table at the annual Chesapeake Knife Club show that I used to attend every December. The show is no more and I had heard that Ray retired.

Thank you, Seem to be a few "Ray Beers" knife makers out there.

I have a similar knife that my wife had Ray make for me with Ivory slabs. He made quite a few knives for the Secret Service but I lost track of him.

My grandfather is the Ray Beers that you are looking for, he definitely made that knife. He used to work in the Baltimore, MD area but has since retired to FL. According to him, the handle is not Cherry but Desert Ironwood. If you have any other questions about that knife, let me know and I can forward them to him.

Hey a fellow Marylander! Did you ever get to see your grandfather make knives?

Yes, many times when I was younger. Never stayed for the full beginning to end process though, caught it in bits and pieces whenever I was over at his shop.
