Ray Kirk was the winner of the Cutting competetion held at the Spirit of Steel show. This was the first cutting competetion we have had inconjunction with a show. Ray can add this to his list of awards for wins in sharpman contests.

Why am I not surprised? ;)

Congrats, brother Ray!

Thanks Blues,
It was with my MS test knife, 320 layers of 52100 and 15N20. Kind of a pretest :). I will use it again in the open competition at the hammer in at Washington and then take the MS performance test under Jim Walker. Charles Smale has always been in the running with the smaller knives he uses. Hopefully I will be able to also.

Congratulations Ray. I am almost as shocked at this news as Blues. I would venture to say by the time June gets here that knife will have been "fully" tested. :D

Danbo,
I can send you a picture of it when I get home but I still haven't mastered the art of posting pics. :). It is basically a 9 1/2" long and 1 1/2" wide bladed knife with guard. It weighs 10 3/4 ounces and is 14 3/4" long. It is flat ground to about .040 on the edge and then convex ground for the edge back about 3/8".
I can't think of anything else about it.

Ray did good! Those that say damascus won't cut it need to hang around more. A "protest"; tell us more Ray. Have you went radical on us? Congratulations Ray. And to John Fitch for a very close second place. Thanks to all the other competitors. It is you guys and gals who demonstrate to the public what a high performance knife can do. mike

Just how BIG is Mr. Kirk if he beat Big John Fitch?! Yeah yeah, I know... this is just a variation on the theme of "it ain't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog" I would however, like to see a pic of the two standing next to each other just to make sure.;)

Mongo,
I tried your email to send a pic and it didn't work. I got a couple of pictures that I will send you.

Could I have some pics too?:D :D . I certainly would love to see them...congratulations on the win too :).

I guess the smallest guy gets the biggest hat! ;)

Congrats to all.

Kinda figures Jerry could get John to smile for a picture :D.
(Tell ya what, I would not want to meet that pair in a dark alley.)

Seriously, congrtulations to both of you guys. I guess you put the often repeated theory here at BF to bed 'bout "Damascus being for looks only".

Looks to me like those "Judges" made some pretty darn good choices.

Congratulations, Ray.

Man, I sure like to know how you make them that sharp. :)

Well done Ray , you went against the grain , who would've gone to a cutting contest with a damascus blade and you proved your mettle :p
Good luck with your quintillion!
