i recently picked this knife up at an estate sale for a few dollars. After a quick search i noticed it was more than just a ''knife'', but i cant seem to find any way to actually purchase one myself. Are these custom made with a limited run? sourced out for production?

I really want one of his folders, Raider to be specific or one by Tashi Bharucha but im not sure of how this all works and who works for who or who makes what for who......

It is a full custom, hand made knife. Ray no longer (or rarely at least) takes orders or makes fixed blades, so these are becoming a bit of a thing. It's an excellent find and you should beat that sucker. They can handle the abuse, I know from experience.

Ray is making folders now, good luck getting another fixed blade. That's not all bad news, his folders are top notch.

I don't want another fixed blade I want a folder but I don't know where to look....I'm still trying to figure out how he does buiness

Keep a very, very close eye on the exchange. They pop up every once in awhile, but usually sell within 5 minutes of being posted.

Alternately, Kizer had a Laconico collaboration they were showing at Blade Show that looked very nice and there's supposedly a Spyderco collab in the works as well though it may be a few years off.

Google his name and search images. You will see a lot of his knives, including some of mine. He now mostly sells over on the USN.

Don't listen to any of the posters above. His knives are a dime a dozen. Virtually worthless. So you don't feel too bad about getting taken I'll give you ten bucks for that knife.

bought this one from Ray back in 2011. O1 steel with Micarta. Beautifully made, and a wonderful field knife

Ray sells folders at shows, and through his subforum on usn. He didn't have an order book that I know of. They are fantastic and Ray is a great guy.

The only way to get his folders is to go to a show and be first in line (his folders usually sell out in the first few hours of a show) or be watching USN when he posts one for sale. Those usually go within five minutes of being posted, sometimes I have seen them go in less than a minute.

This reminds me, I haven't visited him in a while (he lives about two miles from me). Time to remedy that.

As many have said, either in this thread/forum or another, Ray's work is outstandingly clean and solid. Thought I'd show a few of mine:

If you do manage to snag one, count yourself lucky. He does outstanding work. Since I live only a couple miles from him, I have visited his shop a number of times, and have had the chance to look at quite a few of his knives. I got a few fixed blades when he was still making them

I only have one folder, a Ti/Jade G10 Jasmine framelock with S35VN blade

Ray is doing a collaboration with Kizer knives soon, I believe it will be called the Fortunado. It might be the easiest way to get one of his designs. They do show up in the "Custom" area of the exchange from time to time but they fetch a pretty price.

BTW, that is a great find!
