Do any of you know where to purchase the back packs shown in the Bush Craft book? How do you convert liters to cubic inch's?He list his in liters and I only know inch's.Thank's.

The smallest model shown is a Berghaus looks a little bit like the Bullfrog model and probably no longer avaulabe.

The 55-60litre is by Scottish Mountain Gear not much clue as to their availability but have never come across their kit before.

The largest model eludes me but is similar to the Berghaus bergan which has the 2 side pockets that can be zipped together to create a smaller sack.

Ray Mears website has recently been upgraded though at current the bags aren't available on the site www.raymears.com

Afraid my maths isn't good enough to help you with the conversion process.

There are 231 cu. in. per gallon, and 3.785 cu. Litres per gallon, so each Litre = 231/3.785 = 61.03 cu. in.

The larger sack with the zip off side pockets is also a Berghaus, a Cyclops I think... It was the basis of the design for the PLCE 95 Bergen. A similar model is currently avaliable from Berghaus. as a matter of interest the Woodlore knives used by ray are made by a British custom maker called Alan Wood, I have a couple of Alan's knives that I may be willing to trade. Hope I've helped someone :D

Possibly the simplest answer would be to email the people at Woodlore and ask them what the packs are and where to get one.

I did that for the axe that Ray uses, this was just before the latest book came out. They were very helpful, were happy to sell me one in fact ! :D

If you get an answer, do post it here, save everyone else asking the same thing! I am looking for a pack in the 45-55 range right now :)

The small sac is the Beghaus Munro which is available for about £60 to £70. I've had one for over ten years and it's still going strong. For a medium sized sac I've recently got a Snugpak Rocket which is around 55l, although feels bigger. I've had a couple of weekends use so far with no complaints. It is available on the web, try http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk . It's kind of military styled, like a smaller bergan, eg removable side pouches (same size as the military ones) which can be zipped together and worn as a day pack, but you need a spearate yoke/belt to allow that.

I asked Woodlore a while back, the small pack is a berghaus munro, the medium pack is made by scottish mountain gear (woodlore say no longer available), and the large pack is made by Norrona of Norway. I think Norrona have a website, but last time I looked it did not show the pack in question.

Hope that helps

Will

This is the closest I could find on the Norrona site Recon125 at the bottom of the military section.

I think the recon jacket and pants are also used by Ray (though he can probably afford them:) )

Have you noticed the price of the ventile stuff he wears? I was looking at getting a ventile jacket since it's supposed to be quiet which is just what I need for fox/badger/deer watching. No chance of getting anything for less than £200.
