I was reading his book and read of the description of the knife he designed for the wilderness. Does anyone know of a source for these or similar knifes?
I got one made by a US knifemaker, R.W Clark to my specifications, it's almost ready, O1 steel differential tempering (traditional Hamon clay technique) with part of spine also hardened for spark making with Firesteel, tapered tang and a very nice piece of handle wood including pouch style sheath with Firesteel holder for MUCH less then the original Ray Mears of Bisonbushcraft knives cost.
If you have never tried a RAT- 3. You might give that a try. I bought one
in D-2 steel and that is all i really use. Just bought a RAT-7 got it last night
and have high regards for it all ready. I will give it work out this week end.
I f memory serves me right Mr Mears recommends a Spear point Knife with a blade about 4-5" long .He also says not to get one with finger groves so as to allow different hand grips.I bought a Ka-Bar Impact Spear Point in D2 and think this knife ticks most of the boxes!
I have given this blade some hard use and highly recommend it !!!
bark river knife and tool, recently came out with a bushcraft knife called the aurora..... it looks really nice... i am a big fan of BRKT knives, but have yet to get one of these knives.....
