An old mate of mine recently asked me to make him a Ray Mears "Woodlore" type knife. I can't say I'm a big fan of the design, as they remind me of steak knives, but thought I'd give it my best shot. . . .
The blade is 4 3/8" of 4mm stock saw blade steel,
Overall length is 8 7/8".
American walnut slabs with black liners and brass fittings, as requested.
I'm guessing not too many of you are fans either, as this design seems to be a particulary British thing! Let me know.
Thanks for looking,

Ian

I love it - looks like a great knife! The design is particularly popular over in the wilderness and survival forums, very handy for backpacking. I believe Ray Mears borrowed much of the design from Swedish knives :)

Very nice Ian.
I could have put that to good use moments ago, as I just finished a steak that was tough as an alligator's ass. :grumpy: :D

I am of the opinion that most any knife done really well is pretty good. This one is better than good.

Thanks for all your comments:)
Pageophile- I'm not knocking the design, its clearly a useful tool. It just doesn't do anything for me.
I much prefer the American style of knives over Scandinavian:)
Kevin- Sorry to hear about that steak:barf:

While it is a common type of design, it does have a well made, clean look, as does the sheath.

Very nice rendition. Now if you had been going for Bear Gryll's steak knife, you would have had to find out what kind of knife comes on a room service cart.:D

:D:D I'd probably have eaten those pieces of walnut too.

Good source of protein I believe:rolleyes:

Cheers, Ian
