Anyone know about this knife and why they are so hard to find?

Get one made by Dan Koster, MK knives, Blind Horse Knives, or plenty of other American bladesmiths, or BRKT for their interpretations of the same "bushcraft" knife. US handmades are cheaper and as good as if not better than the English "Mears" knife.

Knives are simply more expensive in the UK. Their cost of labor and materials are much higher to start with.

That and Ray Mears is the "Davy Crockett" of modern day England, makes his knives in demand and collectible. They also used to be made by Wilkinson Sword before they closed their doors -because of this, there was a long period of time when the "Mears" knife was unavailable. This drove prices up even higher.

(At least this knife design has a long history behind it, as opposed to the "Bear Grylls" knife which costs $700 -but does not come with a Butler)

A US comparison of a production knife where demand drove up prices is Ethan Becker's line of BK&T tools. Once a reasonably-priced line of well designed knives, which skyrocketed in price once Camillus shut their doors.

haha yeah the bear grylls knife is mad expensive for being a 4" power steel knife, especially when compared to a tre kronor or something similar.

but hey, bear grylls makes chuck norris look like a little girl.
