Here is a few pic's of Ray doing a hawk demo and welding a billet on my press yesterday. Pic's taken By Higgy. :D

What we don't see in these photos is Ray's forging shoes - sandals! haha! :D
It sure would have been fun is a hot chunk of slag wedged itself between a couple of his toes, but as it were Ray did a great hawk demo. IG's press really cut down on the harder parts of the hawk forging process, i.e. upsetting the bar and spreading out the blade. After that Ray smacked it a few times over at the big Fisher anvil and it was nearly complete.

Another fine moment was when Larry slathered a huge dollop of IG's heat-treating relish on a piece of pizza while the rest of us watched in horror as he gobbled it down. Man, am I glad I'm not near his colon this morning!

I had a wonderful time yesterday. Meeting Ray was a real treat. IG was the consummate host (meaning he consumed the most alcohol). :D Seriously, Indian George has a heart of gold and the rest of his crew and proteges are a great bunch of guys.

re: consummate host.....

LMAO!!! :D :p

Glad you made it up there, Jeff.

Hey I.G., how you feeling today? Hopefully progressing as the day wears on. Rays demos on the hawk and bowie were excellent. Gives me some good ideas and inspiration to get busy. Hope he enjoyed himself up this way, it was definately entertaining. Thanks for the hospitality.

Hope your flight home is uneventful....How can that be when you'll be bringing about 100# of wrought iron anchor chain with you!

ELUSIVE! Elusive? Hermit more like it. Geez, I been called an a$$hole before, but never elusive. Thanks? :D :D :D

You know, I had an idea... We should all get together and make a nice knife. I could be a "New England collaboration knife". One guy can make the damascus. One can grind. One can handle it. One can embellish it, etc.

well this was an idea i had before the last hammer-in. i figured with all the people at the hammer-in wecould do a demo on damascus.... then have someone do a demo with grinding that steel... then someone do a demo onheat treat (basic.... nothing really in depth) then have someone do a demo on the next step and the next..... it would have to be an all day thing, start early work late, but a nice collaboration knife would be a good piece to sell to raise money once or twice a year for NECKA. good idea higgy. now lets throw out some names and point fingers untill this thing gets done...... hmmmm what about a canister damascus hawk demo?????

I am still recouping from Monday and Tuesday. Ray and myself had a big ass New England Portuguese style clamboil with the lobsters yesterday. It was a great two days.
The collaboration knives are a great idea.

sure looked like fun guys wish I were there to drink up some beer and join in on the fun. would have been nice meeting you Ray..
and problable the only time Jiff will ever make it  ;) hahaha
once you got that bug you'll be back right Jeff :D

Made it home 1/4 after midnight Pacific time Thursday. I am totally beat! Plan on going to bed in an hour or two and hope to catch up on some needed sleep....

I really enjoyed meeting you fellow's. IG was a great host and one heck of a cook. Would have like to stay alittle longer but I was ready to go home. Found out I could have taken another 20 pounds in my bags but they were heavy enough. They did put a heavy tag on the bag with the anchor chain.

Now you know what a cute old man I am.......... :D Gotta to love those sandles.......

I know what you mean, Dan. There's just something about Indian George. He's rude, crude, and socially unacceptable, but a damn nice guy and cool to hang around with. He's a party animal!

Man I wish you guys would move to Texas so I could attend these things! The people are friendly, the weather never gets above 76 degrees here. Ok, so I'm wrong on some of those accounts. Anyway, sounds like you guys know how to have a great time and enjoy each other. Way to go! There's several of you I'd like to meet eventually, Jeff, Ray and the big Indian being some of them. At least I enjoy your posts!

Damn!! 20# It was great two days. Can't wait to see what you do with all the iron, steel and etc. that you Brought home with you. :D :D

You and your lady should come out here in the fall and spend a week with Helen, me and the dogs. One of these years. Ferrari knew you were a easy touch for food. :D :D

IG, I can just imagine you fellas having a great time, with you as ringleader! Aa-a-a-a-a, I mean, host. You had everything except the fried squirrel to go along with your merriment. No, you don't just run them through the forge fire to cook. Hey, I am really sorry I can't get that far from home to attend one of your great get togethers, but it's sure great to see the pictures and feedback here on such a fun and educating event. Thumbs up for you, IG!

After Raymond finished his hawk demo, he was ready to forge a blade so Mike aka Grasshoppa, was cordial enough to prepare the other forge..
