Well, everyone knows to oil the blades periodically, and not to store them in leather sheathes(and how to condition those). Wire edges, angle and coarseness for sharpening, bla bla bla. It's the other maintenance that I'm interested in. I have a couple of ray skin handles, for instance, with braid wrap around them. How do I take care of that? Is there an oil? I don't think I can strip the braiding, either; one's a Corkum "Shinobi" and one's a Cold Steel "Imperial Tai Pan." There must be something to do without having to remove the handle and re-fit it.
And what's going on under there? While I'm keeping my blades oiled, are the tangs bubbling up with red rust? No one ever seems to seriously address the handles, unless it's wrapping 550 cord around the naked tang--which is maintenance free anyway!
How do I take care of the ray skin with a (non-removable) braid wrap? How do I ensure my tang doesn't rust out?
