I dont know where to ask this question, but I really like the ray skin wallets that Emerson Knife sells. My question is how do they change the color of the rayskin to be lighter? Do they use a chemical to bleach the color out?

I ask because I would like to put my own design on a rayskin wallet.

Any suggestions on if chemicals are a good idea (oxidizing agents?) and how to stencil out the area you are going to bleach out to put your own design on there.

IIRC ray and shark skin go through a long series of chemical treatments to achieve the final product. I wouldn't attempt changes unless I had a scrap piece to try.

"Rit" dye is often used for all sorts of permanent color changes in fabric, it's cheap, might be worth a try.
