I gotta say, sometimes a deal just comes along that just seems like a no-brainer. This fine little necker was listed in the For Sale forum for only $160, with no takers for a day. I snagged it when the owner dropped it to a mere $130! (Thanks, Vern!)

It's not a big knife, but there is a bunch of fine workmanship jam-packed into a tidy package. (My deal is NOT representative of what a new knife would cost from Ray. Just an example of the deals we can find here.) He is a member here. Goes by 'RLS'.

Osage scales, 5 3/4" OAL of forged 1084.

Here is a shot that gives it some perspective:

Jeez, if I sell it in a year at $160 I will have gained 20% profit. (For all those investment-minded souls out there. :p ;) ) He he he! Penny stock!

BTW, I have a pending order with Raymond for his rat-tail folder. It's very similar. And also a HUGE value for the quality.

Nice.

Excellent score Coop...The little "curly q's" have a L.Hale touch.. Cool sheath... I found one in the weeds recently too, I'll email a picture... Best, RBS

I remember that day. I was about to buy it myself! I cant see how he can do it for that giveaway price. Good score.

Great knife, Coop.

I'm waiting on a barlow from Ray which should be done in the next week or so.

The "Ray's" appear to be about the best value in custom knives:

Ray Kirk, Ray Cover, Sr. and Ray Smith. All three make great knives at great prices.

I read the recent article in Blade on Ray Smith. The guy that he credits for starting him(Ray) into making knives lives about 2 miles from me, Billy Watson. Billy is the on again off again forge master for our forge group. He's also my future father in law's best friend. Always kinda neat to see how the people in your life tie in to others.

I picked one of those up from Ray a couple of years ago and there isn't a better deal in knives, IMHO.........from a MS no less........nice snag there, Coop.

Great Score Coop, could not have gone to a nicer fella, I don't collect fixed blades, but if I had seen that one, I would have taken it at the full price.:D
Congrats all around, maker and buyer.
Jim

Great looking knife, Coop! I saw that one and was amazed at what seemed a super reasonable price, but tend to not look too hard a smaller fixed blades when thinking of purchasing. I'll bet that one would have sold immediately with your images! Next best thing to being there!

Thanks for sharing this great fixed blade. Super value. Glad you ended up with it, especially since the rat-tail folder is in the works.

Thanks all. Glad to keep Mr. Smith's work on your radar screen, too.
