I sure would like to see HI make a Razel type knife. Leaf spring steel and a buffalo horn handle would make me happy. Give it a ringed handle like the K-bit and I'd be in hog heaven. Make the blade perfectly straight and square, and it would be the perfect work knife for me.

Did I piss in someone's Cherios?
Y'all are avoiding my thread like it has AIDS.
Ye know you want a Nepalese Razel.

Might have helped if you posted a pic of what a razel is.

Actually I prefer when they make kurkris, after all that's kind of the point..
I hear what you're saying; but I have to say I really like some of my non-khuks. I have bought 26 blades total and most are righteous khuks. I have 8 different kinds of non-khuks of which the Village Farm Knife, Bahadur, Karambit-Cs, and Tarwar are my favorites. Does the Pen knife count as a khuk?

the two model CRKT models, esp the ringed razel is a nice tool (i've heard claim the Brothers say "too nice"), and extremely well made.

HI stuff is great, but they couldn't make one for the price point to be effective and they might lose money on the deal. compare what the CRKT versions go for, and well...

except for items you can't easily buy elsewhere (permanently discontinued for instance (like bonecutters :>)), i don't understand the need to copy other people designs and hardwork and then sell it. doesn't seem right.

i like HI products, in PARTICULAR the khukris, because they are unique and i can't get them from any other supplier. they're marvelous as such. nobody makes a falcata like they do. nobody has the tarwar. the bang for the buck is awesome. i'd like to see it stay that way for a long time. everyone should buy a CAK :>

I agree, the razer ss7 is pretty cool. Maybe just a couple inches longer would be a little more substantial though. Just my thought. I started to make a similar knife (actually, the one in my profile pic) but changed the tip style to a clip point which I will probably sharpen. You might be able to find a knifemaker to make you a custom tailored knife similar to that. ;)

I have one of the early custom Razels. It is an elegant working knife. But it is a unique custom design, and the Grahams collaborated with CRKT to put the other models on the market. At this point, I don't know if it would be right to copy the design without their consent.

I also think HI looks best with traditional designs, not the high-tech modern styles.

Traditional Designs or, at least neo traditional, I think some of HI's short swords are some of the coolest blades around. I like it best when the Kami's themselves introduce us to different designs.
But then again, I'm unhappy with every model name being rendered into an acronym, or handmade kukhris being tortured to death on machine room floors for YouTube ratings...

HI is cultural, not CAD. Call me extremist, if you must.;)

i'd like to see more cultural items myself. things like Kopis, Egyptian patterns, perhaps African, and definitely some more dedicated HI patterns of old.

I actually like the ringed Razel and the stubby pocket Razel better than the big one.
The blade design isn't anything new. Rubber knives, Mora Chisel, and wood chisels all use a blade that is very similar.

Personally, I want one with a perfectly square and straight blade. Perfect rectangle. Like a wood chisel with one edge rounded off.

Guess I'll have to make my own.
My reason for interest in an HI version, is because it would be made of good carbon steel.

One thing is different. The front edge of the Razel is a v-grind, not a chisel grind.

wood chisels tend to be more brittle too; have different handles/grips, and aren't really pockets knives at all.

mill and rubber knives (as a type, not made of rubber) have mora type handles, and are more tool like, but not really elegant pocket knives. they're definitely nice tools though. no rings. can't beat the price at usually less than $15.

the Mora chisel is sweet. it's not a Razel though. good price.

Razels are their own special things. they might be LIKE other things in some ways, but they are unlike anything else.

if one wanted a perfect chisel type Razel, i'm sure the G-Brothers will make one. for a price.

Guys, IMHO, Himalayan Imports should stick to making the best khukuris and traditional Nepali edged tools around. I think that these "designer side project requests" are diluting the efforts of the kamis in keeping tradition alive, considering they have a limited staff. (When's the last time you've seen an authentic sherpa knife on DOTD?)

I realize the workmanship is geared to overseas demands but HI's gotta draw the line somewhere.
And I echo the sentiment of not blatantly copying existing designs.
