Razor edge cases?

I have the Razor edge guides, hones (6"), folding steel and book. I was looking at buying there oak case ($60) or there new hard sided black carrying case ($18).

I would like to hear from anyone that has there oak case.
Is it well built? Do only the 8" hones fit in it or can you stack the 8" hones in it along with the 6" ones?

Thanks!

Yes, the case is well built with study brass furniture that is screwed on. The wood on the sides of the case is .5", so it's a heavy case that should last forever. The logo on top is 3-D, burned into the case, not just printed. I don't have a 6" hone handy to try, but there is aboout .625" of space above the 8" hone when the hone is sitting on it's non-slip pad.

If you've seen a picture of the case open, you can see that there is room in the lid for the sharpening book. The book is held up there with a couple of dowel rods. I laid a cassette tape box on top of the 8" hone. The lid would close, but you could tell the box was springing against the dowel rods. The tape box measured .665".

The dowel rods measure about .480". You could thin those down to get more room. Maybe a couple of notches in the dowel rods to accept the 6" hones would keep the 6" ones from rattling around.

Thanks for the reply!
Just the information I was looking for.

In searching around for razor edge information I found this site last night.

They seem to have preaty good prices on replacement hones. I have been emailing him about cases and he is to get me a price Monday.
He said in his email to me,
I will guarantee I will beat any price that they list on their site due to my wholesale agreement with them. Also, they charge a ton for shipping and handling and I will send it to you at the actual shipping charge.

I don't know about you, but I really like my razor edge item's.
And the oak case alway's looked like it would be really nice to have :)

Thanks again,

Yeah, if you're going to "collect" Razor Edge stuff, you need that oak case! Especially if you can get a deal on it. Thanks for that link in your reply. I'll check them out.

BTW, if you haven't tried it, clean the hones by sucking the grit out with a shop-vac.

Great tip,

As great as the razor edge system works cleaning the coarse hone is the one and only thing I don't care for.

Flipping it over and tapping on it as they show in there video makes a mess.

I sometimes use my blue DMT hone instead of the coarse razor edge hone because of the mess.

I never thought of using the vac on it, thanks!
