Razor Edge systems hones

Has anyone used Razoredge systems hones? Any opinions please?

Yes I have had their ULTIMATE KIT for 5 years now. I have used mine on several occasions. But do keep in mind that I have about every sharpening tool on the Market that has come about for the past 10 years :o :D .

I do give Razor Edge and John Juranitch and great deal of gratitude. I really learned the methodology and science of sharpening by using that kit and reading John Juranitch's book entitled "The RAzor Edge Book Of Sharpening". The Razor Edge sharpening guides are a great tool and I use them a lot when I sharpen blades/tools on regular benchstones.

Spyderco sharpening equipment is what I use the most but the RAZOR EDGE tools are good and they do a good job. There are a couple of downside negatives to using that kit though. It is really easy to scratch up a beautiful blade with the Razor Edge honing stones if you don't at least put scotch tape or some protective film over the blade. And the Razor edge system is really time consuming a labor intensive compared to my TORMEK unit.

The kit is really meant for knives that get a lot of heavy commercial use like in a meat packing house. I do love to use it on carbon steel blades and especially butcher knives. I have a funny feeling that with the advent of the TORMEK wet grinding tool being as great as it is you will see the Razor Edge system tools becoming obsolete in the foreseeable future.

And for really getting a "fine tuned" edge on a serious work knife or pocket knife you just can't hardly beat Spyderco's equipment. Good luck. And keep us posted as to how you end up liking it. :)

I've used the Razor Edge Hones for years (coarse) to thin the edges of my
knives. Just use them dry and brush them off when I'm done. I use my
Sharpmaker to put the final edge on them.

man JD where were you when i was deciding on what sharpening system to get lol, my Edgepro Apex just came today (It owns btw)

well "fdd19" I'm sure you'll get many years of great use from your EdgePro unit. Actually knowing what I already know I would have recommended Gary to get an EdgePro. The reason I recommended him to at least try out a Razor Edge kit because it is a great unit to learn the principles of sharpening. I've yet to own an Edge Pro but I am eventually going to get one.

The Edge Pro is a bit pricey but is well worth it from what I've been told. One thing that amazes me is that as important as the skill of sharpening is and as important as sharpening tools are it's only been in the last 10 years it seems that people have gotten serious about it. Because a dull knife is about as useless as you can get. When I got into the knife hobby/obsession the first thing I made a point to do was to learn to sharpen a knife properly. Good Luck with your Edge Pro. Keep us posted and let us know how you do with it. JD

you got it! ill let lose one goal i have of doing with it - making a common rounded table knife have a sharpened edge :-D
