I tried to move this from the Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment forum...

Has anyone tried this system? I'm curious. The website seems to promote a guide system where the angles are kept constant. Has anyone had good results? Any downside or negatives to this system? Thank you.

I've used it. Not a bad system. I believe it helped me learn to keep a consistant angle when sharpening freehand. Good stones, but they won't give you any indication of what grits they are. Read their book, too. Very good info for someone who is starting out.

Great system.
I used it for years on all sorts of knives.

I've used quite a few sharpening systems/guides over the years, and this is probably the second best I have ever used (#1 is the Edge Pro Apex).

If you don't like the Edge Pro system, and prefer a clamp/guide system, I HIGHLY recommend the Razor Edge System.

Both flavors of the EdgePro and the Spyderco Sharpmaker are much better IMHO. The metal guide on the Razor's Edge Clamp also goes along the stone and gets ground if I'm not mistaken which would constantly change your angles. I haven't tried mine for years but I remember the flat spots on the guides themselves. I do recommend the book though. Very informational.

As always, YMMV.

I have used the guides, but on diamond stones. The guides do wear very quickly on diamond and, if you need to take much off on your edge, you may well have to readjust the guides before you finish. Other than that problem, the guides work well. I too found the book worthwhile.

I tried their edge guide out, but also wasn't very fond of it. The guide wore away too much for my liking, & took too long for re-beveling. Their book is very informative if you are just getting started.
The DMT Aligner is cool, the quality of their diamond stones is awesome.
My current favorite is the Harbor Freight water cooled sharpening system.
