400 grit on a 2x72, then wd40 on a piece of 1000 grit that's on a mousepad. Run the knife back and fourth at approx the same angle as the secondary bevel. The mousepad has some "give" so it stays true to the edge.
I have used the razor-edge system for several years. Does a very good job if you follow directions. I set my primary edge on belt grinder then use the razor-edge on stones to finish
I like to set the edge on a 9 inch horizontal disc with 120 grit paper then move to the 2 x 72 wet machine. Once I raise a burr on the wet machine I move to the diamond plate 400 x 1000 grit. When i have the burr established from plunge to tip I remove it with an ERU set at matching angle. When the burr is removed I strop the edge by increasing the angle slightly, maybe 2 degrees. I strop the edge here; when it feels clean I increase the angle by 2 to 4 degrees more and pass the edge through the "V". This polishes the apex itself and produces an extremely fine edge. Fast accurate and repeatable.
