RazorBack knives A2 blade

I told Scott I'd be more than happy to test this knife out when I saw it on the forums. He sent me an email stating that he would love for me to do that for him, sent me the knife and told me to take as long as needed to do the tests. Seeing Scott's own D2 torture tests inspired me to some extent, but I could not bring myself to bang on rocks or concrete.

I had something more utilitarian in mind. Tests more along the lines of what you would do in camp situations. I had to clear some tree and shrubs from the back of my fence line. I cut all limbs back to the stump and shrubs back to the RR ties that make up part of the retaining wall. Being that Scott said that this was his first A2 blade and heat treat, I think he needs to use this steel more. It held up extremely well.

It sailed thru the limbs and vines with little effort. I took the blade and stabbed it into a
Treated 4x4 that had been acting as land fill with some grass clippings. The stab down and pry out proved no problem this A2 blade. I took the blade and cut a baton to beat it down the corner enough to see how it would handle some lateral stress. It handled that great too.

After a good afternoon of destruction, I went and examined the blade and found a spot of edge roll, not a chip, but a roll. I went back to my site and looked over my area and found a RR spike that was protruding from the base of one of the ties. I had not seen it before. A good steeling on my ceramic rod trued the roll and them some time on the strop had it back to shaving sharp.

This was my first blade of A2 and I must say that I am impressed with it and Scotts treatment. I carried this blade on a road trip to the inlaws and it rode along the inseam of my jeans entirely hidden from view down in the pocket. It did not hinder movement in the least and was not in the way once.

I must confess that after the tests were completed I was reluctant to write this as that meant that it was time to send the blade back to it’s creator. Scott, being the great man that he is made me an offer I that was no person in their right mind would pass on. This now makes my third Razorback knife and all have been exceptional values for the money. I just hope Scott makes more blades in A2.

This may not be the hardest tests that one could put on the knife, but I am sure that this will do all that I need it to do when called upon. Thanks for letting me ramble.

Cerberus thanks for taking the time to help me with the testing. One thing I'd like to mention is that this blade was indeed a test piece. I only did a single draw temper at 390 degrees for 2 hours. Also the soak time at critical should have been a tad longer. I feel with the longer soak and an additional temper cycle, that A2 with a convex grind will be one hell of a tough blade. Thanks again Cerb, you done good. :D
