I have been searching for a new benchstone setup. I've worn out both sides of my Ark stones. I did some careful research and brought the long list of products down to two options. Option one: Razor Edge Ultimate Professional System with the beautiful oak box. Option 2: Norton water stones in 220/1000/4000/8000 grit stones. I've never heard a bad thing about Razor Edge and Norton stones are well known for spectacular results when used properly. Both systems are the same price, about $170,00. Not alot to some people, but to me that's a tidy sum. I have my own almost worthwile sharpening / Knife repair business in my neiborhood to put a little money in my pocket because I've been out of work for a month and need to pay bill. Many thanks to my wife for her supprt.
Now To the Crux of my post. I called RazorEdge 18005411458. I simply inquired about the grit value of there hones in the Ultimate Professional System. I was told a flat out NO. They said it was private information not to be shared with consumers. I didn't ask what the stones were made of or anything that could be considered a "company secret". I simply asked how many grit hones they featured in the Ultimate Professional Kit. I was told by three(3) different people that there was no way I could be told what grit value the hones were. Even when I let them know it was the deciding factor of whether they got my $170.00 or Norton did. Needless to say I ordered the Full set of Norton Waterstones and a guide(not Razoredge) to go with them.
Why would someone be so secretive about information that greatly helps the costomer. I say It's so important to me because I want to give the people's knives that I sharpen the best, smoothest, highly polished edge possible so they come back time and time again. My ark stones did well but I wanted to try something new. If the RazorEdge Ultimate Professional System had a say 4000 grit hone they would have got my money and not Norton.
