Someone recently mentioned The Razor Edge Book of Sharpening by John Juranitch in another thread. That led me to the RazorEdge Systems web site. He's a Guiness Book of Records record holder for sharpening and shaving with an axe.
His company sells some Mousetrap Steels. Pull through pivoting steels with weights; sort of like the pull through sharpeners with angled ceramic rods (not really, but that's the closest I've seen).
Has anyone used one? The steels would be working parallel with the edge, since it's a pull though. Is that OK for using a steel?

SWTSMBO (She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed) likes a cheap little ceramic pull through; this might be a good alternative.

I have no affiliation with RazorEdge; the link to the Mousetrap Steels is below.

They are fantastic. Takes just one hand to steel your knife and does it more consistently. Highly recommend it. I have had one for a couple of years.

No experience with the steels, but running a smooth steel parallel to the edge shouldn't be a problem.
