Razr or Blackberry?

I'm looking at getting new phones this month, and was wondering which cell phone to go with. I'm a nerd, so the blackberry looks really cool, but the razr plays mp3's and takes pictures. My provider is Alltel. I can get either for under $100. Does anyone have any expirience with either, how are they duribility wise? Any other suggestions?

Razr's do not enjoy a good reputation for durability but that may be because they were so popular among teenagers who think everything is disposable so it's OK to leave stuff on the floor where their doddering and half blind father can step on it. :o

Blackberries are pretty cool and don't have that weak Razr hinge. I like the fact that it can be integrated with your Outlook. The batteries last a pretty long time too, and I found the keyboard/scroll wheel interface very intuitive and easy to adapt to. I think the Blackberry Pearl takes pictures and plays MP3s and other media.

ill go with the razr. mostly because im not gadget savvy enough to figure out all the funcions on the blackberry. :)

i had the motorola q for about two weeks, had me stumped, so i took it back and got the razr.

if you like the pda and have a use for it, though, get the blackberry. i hear nothing but good about them.

I'm a blackberry user. I love it. To have email and scheduling with you all the time is a huge time saver. Intergrated with your outlook and you are never out of touch with the buisness world. If you work in a business that is heavy on the email and outlook use this is for you. If your all about getting chicks, this thing is a chick repellent. Go for the razr in that case.

I was hesitant to get a RAZR because of their reputation (I am hard on phones) I broke down and got one. A year and a half later it still works new, and looks good. Go with the RAZR.

Does the Blackberry cost more to get email (monthly internet fees) or does it connect through bluetooth or wi-fi? I have gmail, and would like to use that instead of outlook (I use outlook for work, but work likes to stay at work).

I have a Sony walkman series w810i. 2 mega pixel digi cam on one side, fully functional cell phone on the other with a hi-fi stereo mp3 player/fm receiver in the middle. It is not what I would call a crossover by any means, but rather a 3-in-1 device as it does all three applications quite well.

I, and everyone else I know, HATES their RAZR. The operating system runs like molasses, they aren't very durable, and just are all around lemons.

I love the look and size, but that's about it.

As a RAZR owner, I enthusiastically second that motion!
Get the LG version, the VX8600. Better phone in every way. Everyone I know who has one LOVES it.

You usually have to pay more to get blackberry email services from a cell phone company. Some larger companies will run their own blackberry server but there is still a licensing and upkeep cost.

It uses a proprietary protocol it doesn't just connect by pop3 / smtp and download it like a normal mobile phone would.

It does everything. I can talk on the phone, surf the net (albeit a little slowly) take pictures, listen to music, play games, run my schedule, sync with MS Outlook etc. etc. There is probably more I can do but just haven't figured it out yet. Had it several months now and haven't regretted it a bit. I used ot carry my Ipod and cell phone to work but now it is all in one device. Very cool product.

i've had my razr a yr now and never a problem, not one. knock on wood lol.

if i was gonna get a new phone tomorrow i might would look at a 'berry, i am just now learning to operate my razr though, the 'berry would probably take 2X as long lol.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in SoCal, the Razr is, without question the most popular phone right now --- at least from what I've observed.
Besides just watching what people are using, you can see it in the accessories. The little mall shops that sell phone accessories, for example, are just loaded with Razr stuff. All the other models combined get about 1/3 of the store.

Ask yourself this: do you really want that damn blackberry goin off every time you get a call or an email?

I dont know about you but that comes out to like 50 calls and emails a day!

I detested mine at my last job at Nextel. Now I do computer networking and so I still have to configure them. I hate them. Hate. Bad.

Some of this stuff reminds me of those ankle things they put on convicts under house arrest.
Someday maybe we'll be paying $30 a month NOT to have the thing around. :D

I have had to warrantee my RAZR once and I will need to do it again because my screen is dying and the keys are disentigrating. I probably got into a bad batch because my moms has worked just fine. I would for sure get the blackberry over the RAZR, but thats just me.

Razr's are pretty durable phones. I wear mine on my belt daily at work, have layed on it on a tile floor re-plumbing a sink, hip-checked a few telephone poles, and have dropped it once or twice. It still looks nice, and the newer version I have gets great reception.

However, it's not that great of a phone functionally--you can spend a lot less and get much better in a more homely package.

Plus, if you're on Verizon's network, they lock out the Bluetooth features for anything but headsets, and you're forced to use their bright red menu scheme/setup all the time.

I wouldn't put up with Verizon if it weren't for my under $18.00/mo phone bill :)
