I cant seem to find much of any information at all on the fixed blade version of the 'Reality Based Blade'. Not even a YouTube video. Anyone here own one? I would like to know your impression of it.

Don't know if mentioning the site is allowed (?) but there are two reviews, as well as the specs, on Knifecenter for the f/b version.

If you are looking for a stout and effective combat knife, this is the one! It is NOT made for general cutting, this is a fighter and a work and field knife. Strong enough for opening ammo crades or prying things open. The great thing, is the exchangeable windowbreaker! This is pretty unique with a fixed blade!

I don't generally take the vendor site reviews very seriously because you don't have to look far to find a sea of ridiculous statements. (Marking the knife '1 star' because of a cheap sheath, rantings about the poor chopping ability of their double edged dagger, and my personal favorite - someone who carries 'X' model of knife so he can cut free his bonds if he is ever kidnapped and held hostage).

I was hoping to find a video or pictorial review by someone with an established moniker, or some other semblance of credibility. LOTS of such videos for the folding version, but not a single one for the fixed blade.

Marketing, I appreciate the input. Do you own one of these knives? You sound like you have some first hand experience with them.

Let me explain it this way, I use one, but I do not own it :-)
I know a lot of operators (LEO or Military), who use it for duty.
The sheath is very functional, it has a thumb release, to drwa the knife from the sheath.
If you don't need it anymore, just drop it into the sheath and it lock itself, that you can continue.

I really like the ability to oush or pull on the handle, without the danger of slipping on the blade or off the handle.

The blade, as I said, ist not made for cutting steaks or pizza, but it works :-)

I hope, this helps,

Tobias

It does. I appreciate your thoughts.

I will order one soon. Once it comes in, I will do my best to post pics and throw up a quick video - that way the search engines will at least have something to show.

Well, I got it a few days ago...

How the heck am I supposed to mount the sheath?

Don't get me wrong, I LIKE the sheath, its one of the better made kydex sheaths I have. I also like the spring loaded retainer... But I can't figure out how to mount the sheath to the blade tech belt clip to save my life. NONE of the holes in the sheath line up with the holes in the belt clip. I have several other sheaths like it, and they are all very strait forward ... but for the life of me I cant get the Boker sheath to mount.

I watched a few videos on Youtube and figured out an acceptable way to mount the sheath. It works, and It's functional, but I wish there were a more elegant method. Longer screws would make life a heck of a lot easier.

It is a new version BladeTech "Tek Lok".

I finally got it mounted ... but the only way I can see to mount the knife vertically is to use two screws on the same side, and another pin (no screw) to hold a rubber buffer in place in order to keep the knife from canting. You cant use a screw on a pin that has a buffer on it, because the included screws are too short to go through both the spacer and the sheath.

This is not my first Tek Lok. The shape of the sheath and the unevenly spaced mounting holes used on it severely limit the mounting options, and there are no instructions or pictures included with the knife. Every other knife i have that uses this type of clip has regularly spaced mounting holes. The combination of things made it difficult to make work.

I will post pics as soon as possible, but I wish there had been a different method used for mounting. The knife is awesome, and the sheath is awesome ...

At this price, for a Taiwanese knife, The sheath should have been molded as one piece with some manner of belt attachment. Other such Tactical knives in this price range have done just that - IE the Timberline Zambezi, which also has a locking sheath, and uses integral molded webbing loops.

you only use two screws to attach the Tek-Lok to the sheath.
You can carry it horizontally if you want to.

We designed the sheath this way, to give the customers the highes flexibility how to carry it. Left or right side, upsite down, with Tek-Lok, Molle-Lok or IWB Belt loop...

I hope this helps

Yes, thanks again.

I did eventually figure the sheath out. It was just a little different than what I am used to.

Overall this is an amazing knife. Much more stout than I ever imagined it would be. Durability of this blade will never be a factor in a lifetime. The point is a bit thin (by design I'm sure) so you would not want to do anything dumb such as pry with it, but as far as doing its primary job (dealing nasty cuts) I have the utmost confidence in its ability.

I got a buzz looking at the photos above even though I own one! Besides looking like one of the most badass knives around, it also seems to be extremely strong. I put a Spyderco G-clip on mine which is a more appropriate size for the sheath rather than the huge Tek-lock. The G-clip allows me to carry it discretely in a front pants pocket.
I also have the folding version of this knife which has a more pronounced gladius tip, and is also very cool.
