Hi guys!

I have a Helle skinner and a BK-9 but I am really looking for a “if I had to depend on just ONE knife…” survival knife definitely, but it should be able to skin/gut if I lost my Helle etc. Good all around wildnerness/camp knife. RC-4 or 6? Thoughts? I am driving myself NUTS! I am also thinking that the BK9 is too heavy and am trying to lighten my load. (I have also thought about the Falkniven-FI,S1. I am a traditional bowhunter and leave for another Quebec bear hunt in two weeks so I am hoping to get this order in soon! :)

Get it with Molle option?

Thank you so much!

Steve

Out of the ones you mentioned I would pick the RC 4 plain edge w molle sheath. If you want a scandi grind then the Fallkniven would be my choice. If you like convex grind then the Bark River Fox River is excellent. The RC 4 is a great value and in my opinion a great survival knife. It will skin and butcher and do anyhting else you might need it to do.You can't beat the quality for the price

I have an RC-4, Falkikniven F1, and a Foxriver. I prefer both the RC-4 and Foxriver over the f1, but I think all of them will meet the tasks that you want to throw at them.
I like the way the RC-4 feels in hand the best. It has an extremely comfortable grip for my medium sized hands. If you do choose the molle back, there is ton of ways you can carry it. The RC sheath is one of the best and well thought out sheaths on the market.
I say go RC-4, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.

RC-6 would be nice BUT IT'S NOT AVAILABLE YET.......:) no no I'm not being impatient!!!:grumpy:

Well, I'm new to this forum, but many may know me from the Outdoor Forums of R.A.T. -- I'm the same Big E from Tennessee. I say you can't go wrong with that RC-4, I love mine.

Thanks for this thread. I was contemplating the RC-4 vs. the RC-6 as well. I eventually went for the RC-4, as you did. It's a great knife, a wonderful choice.

My RC-4 is here and I love it!!! I confess that I haven't put it through it's paces yet but I am leaving this afternoon for a traditonal bow Quebec bear hunt so it should get some use there! I want to thank everybody again for all the help!

Hey Curveman,

Appreciate you using RAT Cutlery knives. Let us know how it performs for you.

Stay safe,

Jeff

Just got back from a traditional bowhunting trip where the RC-4 was used to debone a bear right out of the box-the meat came off like butter off a greasy pole! I am very pleased with this knife. Question: I reprofiled the edge to 25 degrees with a Lansky. Bad idea? What do you guys use/do with this blade?

Thanks

Steve
