RC-3 horizontal carry

Hello everyone. I've been looking for a new knife with an emphasis on horizontal carry. I do not like the way my fixed blade protrudes when I must go to a gas station or grocery store or while driving in my truck. While I am satisfied carrying a folder, there are situations when I feel more secure with a fixed. I almost just ordered a JRE cricket/F1 setup, then I noticed the RC-3. Considerably cheaper, good blade length too. Before I order one, I was wondering if anyone could tell me about how comfortable the RC-3 is to carry horizontally, with the Molle? Is it pretty flat and concealable? How about sheathing and unsheathing? Is it pretty smooth. Looks like the knife is a good one, so I'm too worried about that, except perhaps maybe it's function as a firesteel striker? Thanks.

I often carry an RC3 in horizontal carry, but I much prefer using paracord through the sheath holes and feeding the belt through the paracord. The sheath sits much tighter to your body that way. Carried in that fashion it is virtually unnoticable.

I personally like using paracord to lash it to my belt, but the TecLok method would work well also. The MOLLE isn't your best option for what you want it to do, not really designed for CWC......at least in my opinion.

I use two MOLLE locks. Works great and keeps a low profile. :)

I carry an RC-3 horizontal carry @ 12:00 on my Wilderness Frequent Flyer Belt in its molded sheath with a large tek lok.

With an untucked t-shirt, hardly noticeable.

For me, very easy to draw in this position. Some people have filed-up the jimping on the blade spine and have used that at a firesteel striker.

Thanks guys, exactly what I was looking for. I have plenty of paracord so I'm looking at places to get the tek lok. More comments are definitely welcome.

As someone mentioned, a few of us here filed off some of the coating where the jimping is for your thumb to use to strike a firesteel and it works great.

The plastic sheath is tough and takes spraypaint well if you want to change the color.

OK, I'm a little new to tek lok so bare with me. Are the newer Blade-Techs better (how?) than the Rat tek-lok large RC-41TL. Do I need to buy a tool to put it together?

FortyTwoBlades:

I see 2 Molle locks in the RC-3 kits I'm looking at. Isn't that the amount that would have to be installed?

My fixed blades are Bark Rivers, so this kind of setup is very new to me. Thanks again guys.

Perhaps I am not understanding your question, but put what together? The TekLok that I have has a screw that you insert into the hole in your sheath and then screw the backing piece (can't think of the proper name) to secure it in place. Sometimes you need to use a rubber washer (or spacer) to make it snug, other times it's not needed.

If your asking about assembling the actual TekLok, then no, that comes ready to go out of the box.

My mistake, I mis-read the description of tek-lok. I think I'm good to go for my order and thanks to all for the info. Taking off coating for striking and the ability to spray paint is good info, I will probably do both that. I'm going to order the large Rat tek-lok but I would still like to hear about the benefits of the Blade-tech that rankor mentioned. Glad I'm going this route, seems like you guys think it's a very good horizontal carry. Thanks.

You just need a phillips screwdriver.

Older Tek Loks had:

Screw tension belt shim to adjust belt width,

Tek Lok perma clip is removable and is used to permanently lock the Tek-Lok on to any belt.

Newer Tek Loks now have:

Screw tension belt shim replaced with snap-on belt shim.

Perma clip replaced with integrated pivot lock.

Great, thanks. I'm going with the RC-3P-OD, orange and the blade-tech. Appreciate everyone's help and definitely eager to get my hands on the knife.

Thats the same set up I have. I'm right handed and clip my tek lok'd RC-3 horizontally just the left of my belt buckle. It's relatively low profile and easy as pie to sheath and unsheathe. Good choice!

I have the same model too:thumbup: I love it. I usually go for the paracord/ cordlock method, or just use the molle sheath like a normal belt sheath.

Knivesshipfree.com has some really nice leather sheaths if you ever decide to add that to your collection.
