RC-3 mil heat treat question.

Hey Jeff. I was just wondering in light of the rat heat treat thread in which you stated that you are now "through" heat treating your blades using a new process, instead of differentially heat treating them, if the rc-3 mil employs this new heat treat or the old differential heat treat? Are they treated differently than the original release (to law enforcement and millitary only)? Also, how long ago did you change over to the through heat treat and is there a way to tell the way a particular blade was heat treated? I don't mean to make this a hundered questions session, but I'm just kinda curious. I guess that this thread seems to imply that one heat treat is better than the other. I don't really care what heat treat my rats have because I know that they are all built to the same great standards. I was more just interested in this info for historical purposes and to get a better handle on the evolution of rat cutlery and your great knives. Thanks!

Sorry this thread slipped by, The Mil is heat treated in the same fashion as all the other blades, with the Rowen proprietary HT process.

I don't know when exactly the switch was made, but I'm pretty sure it was in the very early stages of production if not in prototype preproduction, before anything ever made it out.

I doubt that a person could tell the difference between a diff. HT and the Rowen process without seriously flexing the blade or even breaking it and looking at it under a microscope.

I see. Thanks a lot shotgunner A.K.A. SUPER EXTREME MODERATOR OF THE CENTURY award nominee (yes I've just nominated you) I appreciate the response bro.

You better hope I don't win and take the title away from Tony......

He has guns and a firecracker temper. And he sleeps with that award under his pillow.:D

gottahaveit,

I completely missed this thread and apologize. Been so busy lately that I drop in here and skim over the site quickly. Shotgunner pretty much nailed it. We started out very early with the differential then moved quickly to the proprietary process. Shon had been working on it for some time. The MIL version has always had the same heat treat and never was differentially treated.
