Hey all. I'm lookin' to add an rc-3 to my RAT collection and I was wondering if anyone preferred the modified pommel to that of the sharpened pommel on the rc-3 mil. I just sold a knife and I have enough money to cover either so that is not an issue. I am leaning toward the mil version, but I just wanted to know if there was a reason to opt for the modified version instead. Thanks :D

The only thing to worry about is whether or not its going to jab you in the side. If not, get the MIL.

THe RC3MIL is awesome .....if you have love handles and carry the RC vertical then opt for the RC3 Modified :D

Thanks! I think I'll go for the mil...and maybe a fire kit while I'm at it. If anything the poking pommel will serve as motivation to not pack on any more pounds. :o

I prefer the modified pommel myself, as it gives a better surface to strike with a baton for various shaping/splitting tasks. And if I ever need to break glass I have a Benchmade Houdini on my keyring.

If it's that bad of an emergency just use the tip! It's not like the warranty doesn't cover it. ;)

How hard would it be to grind the point off of the pommel if it did jab you on the side? When I get an RC3, it will be a Mil, because it is indeed a better package. I just dont know If I'll like the pointed pommel.

I just gor te RC 3 mil, I ordered the modified but they (2 Wolves) made a mistake. It gonna be used on my SWAT rig, so I don't mind. It's not really sharp, not a problem.

I thought that the pointed pommel would poke and bother me due to my rather impressive love handles but after carrying my new RC-3 for a few weeks now it's not bothering me in the least.

Worse comes to worst, you can round it off quickly with a belt sander or bench grinder, then a little cold blue.

Thanks for the recent responses CPL and shotgunner but I already got the mil and I love it. Definitely recommend it as the one to get!

I would have to personally go with the non modified RC-3. Honestly if you are ever in a situation where you have to break through glass...use the tip of the knife. I am almost certain it will do just as good of a job as the modified and not do any damage to the knife.

Just so as to avoid confusion for those purchasing rc knives, the modified pommel is the rounded off one. The original (non-modified) pommel is the pointed one. I think you have them mixed up. I know it's a little counter-intuitive, but that's just the way it is.

Just curious:

Doesnt the pointed pommel of the RC-3mil prevent one from holding the knife in a reverse grip with your thumb resting on he pommel...?
