I wanted one with a plain edge, but they were out of stock at Brigade Quartermasters. I couldn't wait so I went ahead and got a combo edge.
Has anyone simply sharpened a combo blade like you would a regular blade and turned it into a plain edge over time? I was just wondering. I absolutely love it regardless.

I haven't done it myself, but I supposed that it would be possible. But you'd be grinding off a large part of the blade, so I would think it wouldn't be near as strong and therefore prone to breaking/chipping. I could be wrong though.

What you could do, and this is purely a suggestion, is get the knife and try it out as is. If you still don't like it, consider trading. I'll bet there is someone out there with the opposite situation your in, they have the plain and want a combo. That way you get a knife that won't chip/break. But that's just my $0.02......

Rat / Rowen do a very nice job on their serrated edges so you'll probably be just fine with it.

The RC serrated edges are done in a way that will allow you to sharpen the knife as if it didn't have serrations, with small sections of flat between the hollows.

It's a pretty slick design and I assume that if you were to sharpen it that way, and not use a round file to sharpen into the hollows, eventually the serrations would go away.

But it would be a looooonnnnnnnngggggg time.
