Browsing around at RC-3's on various retail sites, I am seeing a lot of photos that do not match the knife description and am sort of confused.

Is there an RC-3 with the following

Rounded Pommel, Orange G-10 scales and black plain edge blade?

or

The same as above, but orange micarta?

The only rc3 with a black blade and a rounded pommel is the rat pack knife, which was a limited run for this forums members. All other rc3s have a glass breaker pommel. All other orange handled rc3s have od blades. Where are you seeing otherwise? There's a few shops I've seen with poor Photoshop skills that lasso out the pommel point, and screw up thier white balance so the od looks black

I think a lot of our dealers are color blind or just plain idiots sometimes. I hate to talk about our customers but some of these dealers have caused a lot of problems for the buyer because of bad information (then blame it on us). We have been culling some dealers along the way. The BUYER and END USER are the ONLY people that are important in this business. We appreciate our dealers but if they screw over the buyer, they're gone. We don't want their business.

And this is why yall have such a great following! Yall sincerely care about the end buyer which is sadly not the case for alot of other companies! Thanks guys!

OK, then I am confused, because even the RAT website lists "standard" (glass breaker)and "Modified" (rounded) pommel versions of the RC-3.

:confused::confused::confused:

There are also modified rounded pommel versions of the RC-3.

So, here's the scorecard:

RC-3:

Black Blade/Gray Linen Micarta Handles or OD Green Blade/G10 Orange Handles or Desert Tan Blade/Green Canvas Micarta Handles

Plain or Partially-Serrated Blade

Glass Breaker Pommel/Modified Rounded Pommel

RC-3MIL:

Black Blade/Green Canvas Micarta Handles

Plain or Partially-Serrated Blade

Sharpened Glass Breaker Pommel

Unique Serial Number on Pommel

RC-3 RAT Pack Limited Edition:

Black Blade/G10 Orange Handles

ESEE logo on blade

Plain Edge Only

Modified Rounded Pommel Only

Unique Rat Pack Number on Pommel

Custom Handle Screws (?)

Thanks, I guess some sites their pictures make the OD look black on some blades.

Looks like OD/Orange G-10 is the ticket.

Anyone with the Orange G-10, hows the texture on the G-10 for game cleaning? To smooth or checkered?

The orange G10 handles are smooth, low maintenance (ie easy to clean after skinning game) as opposed to the micarta versions.

While the G10 handle faces are smooth, there is a slight texture on the G10 edges where it meets the blade tang. The blade as well as the blade spine has a textured surface due to the blade coating.

Thanks, I wonder how the regular micarta handles would clean up after field dressing.

I used my Izula Friday on a deer, but the paracord wrap is pretty much shot from blood, and I am not sure about how slippery an unwrapped Izula would be covered in blood, so I thought a move up to an RC-3 with actual handles would be nice.

Anyone had to clean blood from the micarta scales? (that you can admit to publically)? :D

(I'm sorry but I just have to go a little off topic here). I don't know if you've even tried cleaning the micarta handle but I would definitely not say that the micarta is hard to clean, I only have the MIL so I can of course only speak for the canvas micarta, but blood oil or whatever that's on there comes out really fast with soap and water (G10 might be even easier, but I wouldn't call the micarta hard)

edit: wasn't so off topic after all :P (Bear Claw Chris Lappe asked about it when i was writing)

Sorry if I came across that micarta was a chore to maintain. I had an RC-4 Desert Tan and cleaning the micarta wasn't hard; warm water (or cold) with soap. Didn't warm up it them (no pun intended). Canvas micarta does provide a nice texture for gripping.

Don't get me wrong. I have a set of black double diamond canvas micarta grips on my 1911 Commander Bobtail w/c I carry. And they are very comfortable to grip and don't dig into my sides even after all day carry.

I believe in the (hopefully) near future RAT will be releasing micarta handles for the Izula.

Here's the thread:

And a pic:

I cannot speak to larger game (because I didn't draw any tags this year :( ), but my Izula had fine grip when covered with blood from: 1 rabbit, 1 marmot, 8 doves, 1 cornish hen. I used it naked and love the finesse I am capable of with the little ant. I had primarily been using a Green River Ripper with my own scales for small game, but the Izula has now displaced at least 5 of my favorites for various cutting tasks. That BRKT necker coming in the mail might give the Izula a run for its money though.

Did my own little test, since I am diabetic, I have lancets here, so I just popped myself and smeared blood all over the tan micarta scales of my RC-4 and let it set for about 12 hours to dry.

Came right off with warm water and liquid dish soap, without a trace.

:)
