I've always lashed my RC-3 to my 1.75" belt with paracord. This works well for daily carry, pulling the handle tight into my side so that it doesn't print and cause a panic amongst the cowards and pacifists.

After hiking a few miles wearing it this way, the blade digging into my side is a real problem. I was about to order a RAT Pack Kit with the RC-6, but I'm really not into bigger heavy knives. I've yet to come across a task that I can't handle with my RC-3. I really like the idea of a small survival kit being attached to the knife though, since I started layering my equipment (gear on me, gear in backpack, gear in duffel in car, etc.).

I'm now thinking about buying an RC-3 with a MOLLEback sheath and just lashing a small survival kit to it with paracord. Has anyone else done this? Any reason it would not work?

No reason it won't work. Use your imagination. Folks here are always building some awesome kits.

BTW you know you can buy just the MOLLE back on the RAT site for $20 right?

The only thing better than one RAT RC3 is two RAT RC3s :D

I have an RC-3 MIL and I usually keep it lashed to my bug out bag (Condor II), it's a perfect fit.

I'm doing the opposite, I'm lashing a small survival kit to the knife, which will hang off my belt, so that I can lose my backpack and not be totally screwed ;)

I have the same problem. I can't seem to find an easy way to carry my 3, it either pokes out through my clothes or pokes me. For now I am going to end up just putting it in the magazine holder behind my seat until I can figure out something different.

Don't get me wrong, I love carrying the knive in my belt even on an 80 mile car ride. The only time it bugs me is when I'm on a 2 mile + hike.

MOLLE back ought to solve the problem.

Yup. It'll drop the knife below the belt so it won't dig you in the side anymore. Or you can do what I do and carry it horizontally at the small of the back with MOLLE locks. :)

I modified a kydex magpouch belt clip and attached it to my RC3 sheath. It does dig a bit but I have to take the blame for the love handle!!

for me when i do get an rc 3 i want to get a sheath like the one that came with my rc5 with a metal clip that works the best for me
