Here are photos of my RC-4 helping me prepare food for my dog. I am no expert in carving bit with enough force from the RC-4 I was quickly through the largest bones. Yes as I stated before I use my blade for batoning and hacking through bones all the time because we feed my dog raw food. Anyways...here are the pics!

Post bone/meat/sinew/fat/kitchen sink(oops) pic of the RC-4 and my new BM.

I'll probably get flamed for this but here goes: what is that orange stuff in the center? I mean I know its innards but I just can't make anything out!

Nice knives though. Out of curiosity, why do you feed the dog raw food?

It's the white meat! It's suppose to be healthy for dogs, they are related to wolves after all.

The orange stuff in the middle is just meat, it looks weird because of the lighting and crappy phone that I used, its actually pink-ish. I feed raw because its the best for the dog...kibbled dog food has only been around for about 150yrs. which is not enough time for the dogs digestive system to adapt to it. Since dogs are direct descendants of wolves it only makes sense to feed raw. Dogs and wolves are not omnivores they are carnivores and while people claim that they know a dogs physiology best and that giving raw will introduce parasites to the dogs systems such as tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms the dogs stomach acids are extremely strong and will kill everything. Since I feed my dog raw I have taken him to the vet once for his rabies vaccination, the vet complimented him on his coat as well as the muscles in his neck and shoulders(he has to tear the meat off bones) and quickly asked us what we feed him. When we told him that he eats raw he was surprised but quickly told us to switch him to kibble because its well balanced and he'll get "worms" with raw. See vets get paid to sell food like Science Diet and Nutro so they tell you that feeding raw will introduce pathogens and parasites and recommend switching to whatever they sell because they are vets and know best; in all reality though, kibble foods are one of the number one causes of a dogs lack of good health, most dogs have dental problems such as gingivitis and bad breath (yes it’s a dental problem) by the age of two, also coat quality is bad, they might have allergies and defecate far too much because the filler in kibble, we cannot digest grain such as corn but dogs can? I don’t think so. The BARF diet is nice but pricey! I just pick up whatever my local grocer/butcher has the cheapest, the turkey was from Thanksgiving we just froze it until ready to use(he's already gone through 2 turkeys). So once this is done we'll go back to chicken necks, turkey necks, cornish game hen, whole fish, shrimp, eggs....whatever we can find.

So after the life story on dog food (sorry ESEE mods) I love my RAT and its always used to break bones, cut meat (and kitchen sinks) and baton wood.

Thanks

hey Tyrant- Where can you find out more on what is ok to feed them and stuff, we fed my dog a big beef bone once, he loved it! So are poultry bones ok as long as they are not cooked (being brittle and all)?

Careful with poultry bones - it'll kill your dog. Poultry bones breaks and can puncture your dogs' innards or even choke on them - I wouldn't recommend it. Still with big beef bones.

Just like bladebuster said..poultry bones can kill your dog but only if they are COOKED. The bones are extremely soft and flexible in raw form (I can break them with my hands easily) and my dog loves them! His favorite food is whole chicken (hard to find with entrails intact). More dogs die a year from literally inhaling their kibble food than from a piece of chicken bone.

I'll pm you the info for feeding raw.

Very interesting read, I never knew that about the kibble vs. raw. I hope I didn't derail your thread too much :o

i knew cheap kibble is horrid for any animal. i didnt know dogs eating raw however was great for them. i have seen many dogs eat raw and most always end up throwing up or getting sick somehow. this includes chicken, turkey, deer and other wild animals. why is that?

yeah I knew about them being so brittle when they are cooked, thanks for clearing that up Tyrant, think I may grab a few cornish hens and see how my dog likes em

The reason a dog will throw up from eating raw is because their stomach's are used to digesting kibble. When we first got my dog and switched him to raw when he was a puppy his poop was very runny and wet. This is because his digestive system was not used to the food. Now his poop is small, hard and black! It turns black because all the nutrients were extracted out of the food whilst digesting, once his poop hardens it turns white and is like powder. However, if we take him to my mother-in-laws and he gets to some cat food either kibble or wet his farts stink like cat food and his poop becomes runny again. I used to work at a local pet shop and we would get people in that wanted to switch their dogs diet from one brand kibble to the other and we would recommend that they do a 20/80 mix of new food and old food then 40/60, 60/40 and finally 80/20 until their dog's system got used to the new food.

However, I can feed my dog chicken one day, turkey the next, venison, fish, beef, duck, eggs, shrimp and raw bacon all at separate times and he wont get sick from the variety of meat.

He doesn't know what to do with "human" food when we give him a little scrap every now and again such as bread or a chip...its too dry so he tosses it around his mouth trying to wet it because the texture is very foreign. But if I took my dog fishing I'd better get a hold of my fish quick before my dog snags it from me and devours it right there on the river!

I'd like to see your dog please. I love dogs. I do a 50% raw diet with mine and he loves it.

pic's of your pooch and pm me the raw data if you do not mind. Won't change my old lab Spot's diet now that he is pushing 11 but might for the new puppy in a couple years.

I will have to take pics at home after work to see him...he was the runt of the litter and now at around 7 months he's tall for his breed and his chest and neck is pretty bulky.
I fed my last dog raw and she loved it as well...unfortunately my ex took her when we split and moved to Colorado!

Here's the link btw http://www.rawlearning.com/rawfaq.html...there was one other that I have been looking for about a family of Great Danes that eat nothing but raw, I'll have to find it...also, Alaskan sled dogs eat raw because its easy to fill a 5 gal. bucket with reindeer meat and put it on the sled, it stays very cold if not frozen while racing.

mainly grocery store, we have a lot of health food stores here that sell stuff that the local mart wont, Pretty much whatever is on sale we get a ton of. Around Thanksgiving you could get a turkey for around $7-8 so we bought two, cornish game hens were like 2 for 5 bucks(which he loved). Also we get the managers special which is basically cuts of meat that have sat in the fridge for almost too long so they are cheap, just get them home, wrap em in meal size portions and throw in the freezer.

Also, if I go fishing I feed the entire fish to my dog since they are too big of a pita to cook and eat for me(even though I love fish) or if a friend goes hunting and tags an elk/deer he gives me a bunch of meat. William, your dog is very good looking!

All I have is a Boston Terrier for now, once we move I want a lab or dobermann.
