RC-4 handle...

feel a bit short to anyone else? My hands are big but not yeti hands. I finally got a chance to take my RC-4 out into the woods and beat on some nature, and I was a little surprised that it wasn't more of a handful. Granted the compactness is a huge benefit in general, but another 1/8 or 1/4 inch of handle would help me for sure. Its hard to imagine the Ontario handles were way shorter...

Am I crazy? I still love the knife btw.

i've got 4.5 inch wide palms, so I always look into handle size. I think it could have used an extra 5mm, but in the end if you handle it enough in a variety of grips you'll find it comfortable to use in the end. Just my 2 cents.

This was a concern for me as well. I dont live in a huge metropolis so I have to buy off reviews from others. There are excellent reviews out there, and they talk about handle size, how it fits their hand etc...but no one EVER mentions how big their hands are in measurements. ie; palm width, finger width, length etc. "I have medium size hands" just doesnt cut it imho. Anyway yeah, the handle, if it were 1/4inch longer it would be perfect. People with smaller hands just use less handle...people with bigger hands are screwed. ha, sorry this sounds negative. Its still an AMAZING knife. :p

I have big hands - and while the handle is small, it's not uncomfortable to use.

Yeah, it is sill comfortable enough...but that 1/4 inch would help. Maybe there could be an 'XL' version of these guys? I imagine the larger knives (>RC-4) which are used for chopping have longer handles so you can really throw them around.

Yep, the 5,6, and Junglas have larger handles. The 4 is a bit compact, but I think It's a good fit for what I use it for. I usually pair it with something larger for the big jobs.

Yes, I find the RC-4/RC-3 handle to be slightly small for my use. I tend to put a finger in the choil area alot when using it. Even so, it is still comfortable to use, and I personally don't get any hot spots while using it.

I have small hands (genetics, it's a crap shoot) and I feel that the handle is a little small. Not uncomfortable though, but an extra 1/4 inch would have been nice. Still love the knife and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a blade that size, even with the very minor complaint of the handle being a wee bit short :D

My hands are small as well, 4" from one side of my palm to the other with my thumb outstretched a comfortable amount (4.5" with it out as far as it goes), and the RC4 handle is perfect for me...though even the Izula is comfortable with these small mits.

Ha, you made get up to find a ruler so I could measure my palm...and it is...8 inches baby! Actually I couldn't figure out which part to measure but at least I got a chuckle. The real issue is that I just have to go use it again..

well my rc-5 is perfect for my large to extra-large hands... i don't think there is much of a difference between the rc-4 handle compared to the rc-5 let me know if i am wrong

I gave the 4 to my wife and bought the 6 for myself. The handles on the RC6 fit my hands real well.I know it does'nt make any sense, but the handles on my RC3 feel better to me than the ones on the 4.

Totally wrong. The five is much bigger than the four

I'm one of the few people that doesn't like the -4. It just doesn't work for me. The blade is a little too thick for the length, and the handle too small for the length. The handle is fine for the -3, but I keep hoping they'll put the -6's handle on the -4's blade like the TAK.

Not that it matters, I use the -6 for just about anything I would have used the -4 for, so....

...so what you're saying is that I should go get a 3 and a 6...and possibly a 5? Haha, I'd be a fool not to I guess

Absolutely! I bought my brother a 4 and was discouraged by the handle size, although I am coming from having a 5. Both are great knives, though. And I'm not saying i wouldn't love to have one...it just took me by surprise

If I remember correctly the 3 & 4 handles are the same and the 5 & 6 I know are the same....
Blade length & thickness are all that differ

For me, the shortness of the handle is made up for by the design.

I thought it was too short when I first took it out of the bag...but when I used it, I liked it.

I'd say keep using it and see if it grows on you. If not....there are more in the works!

I'm with Cpl; the -4 is my least-carried as it gets bob duty.

(For me), the handle size on the -3, the blade thickness of .125", and resulting weight is perfect for handling and edc use. The -4's thickness of .188" makes it a tad heavier than a -3 for me. But .188 inches is perfect for the -6's blade thickness.

Both of my -3s are carried all the time either in the molded sheath/tek lok or in a KSF Hunter's pocket sheath.
