RC-4--Micarta or G10??

Hello all,

I am going to buy my first RAT knife, and I have decided to go with the RC4. From the comments I have read it seems like a good 1st RAT, very versitile, not too big, not too small.

My only question is in regards to which handle material to get. I do not have a local RAT dealer, so I can not feel the knives in person. I am currently leaning towards the Micarta w/ the desert tan blade, but I am looking for feedback from other RAT owners.

Also I have above average size hands, how comfy is the RC4 in larger hands

Thank You for any feedback.

Trevor

Hello Trevor,

Both the G10 & Micarta are very durable materials. Some like the more textured feel of the Micarta verses the smoother feel of G10. For all practical purposes, I think it would come down to being more of a matter of personal preference as far as looks.

My hands are average to large & I find the RC-4 handle is adequate & feels secure (which of course, is quite important). I have attached an in hand pic to give you some perspective.

I hope this helps.

i JUST got my first rc3 today (I've been using the mr's). I got the G10 handle and i have to say, even though i haven't used that one yet, I like the way it feels better then the Micarta. it's smoother. i'm not sure if everyone would say it's a lot smoother but I think it is.

I have an RC-3 with G10 and an RC-4 with Micarta. I think they are both great but I do find the micarta to be just a tiny bit "grippier" than the G-10. I like them both enough that I'd feel comfortable picking between the the two based only on looks or color.

They both have the same size handle and they fit my medium hands just fine. I don't know how they'll fit a larger hand though, sorry.
