I am planing on buying a rat knife but i cant decide which one. I am between an rc-4 and an rc-3.

Any advice from owners would be great.

I like the RC-3 for every day carry and the RC-4 as a wilderness knife. How do you plan to use it?

well i plan to use it for everyday carry but if the rc-3 will hold up for the challenges of outdoor camping that would be great. I still cant make up my mind though is the rc-3 blade as small as people say it is and is the rc-4 a better for all around use because of the bigger blade?

The RC-3 will definately hold up to hard use. If you plan to edc a fixed blade go with the RC-3. It rides very well on the belt with just a piece of 550 or a molle lock.

The handle lengths are the same on both knives, and the RC-3 handle is slightly longer than on the Ontario rat-3.

Eventually, you have to get both. :)

what do you have/ use now, and what are your thoughts. I'm looking at the RC-3 because it is small, and it would either do the job or my khuk would. no need to carry a mid size knife with the chopper IMO. but its still big enough to go alone. my current camping knife has a 7inch blade, and it's just too big for fine stuff, and small enough that I bring the khuk anyway. six of one, half a dozen of the other.

RC3 sounds like it fits the bill, unless you'd like to save alittle more money and pick up the RAT Cutlery Izula if that may work for you...

The RC-3 is a daily carry piece for me and gets a lot of use. It does indeed sound as though that would be a great choice for your purposes.

I have an RC4 that I use as an EDC blade. The RC4 sheath sets up well for a horizontal carry. It also carries well for inside the waistband.

I own both the 3 & 4, with the 3 seeing edc and my go to fixed blade. I like the 4 as well but I use the 3 more. Whatever you get spend a few more for the molle back, you will be glad you did!

I liked the RC3 more, but after the izula came out, I would prefer the RC4, and will be getting one when I have the funds.

Good choice! Though either one would have been the right decision. :D

The RC3 Mil is probably the best version of the RC3 out there. Especially since you get all the sheath options.
