Will it be possible to buy the orange scales separate in the future?

I just ordered an RC-4 from Cumberland and would like to put the orange scales on it.

No. Due to the way we marry a set of scales to a knife in production.

I know you're probably sick of it being asked, but couldn't you release them made oversize with the caveat that there WILL be fitting required at the end user level?

Of course it's easier to justify buying a new knife because you don't have that color scales. . .

. . .you wife will understand, that's why she keeps buying more shoes and pocketbooks. . .

. . .it's good to be single.

We are working on a method for selling handles but it will be a long ways off before we have it finished. Here's the problem we see with selling aftermarket handles: If they are not fitted correctly then it makes the workmanship look shabby and whoever picks up our knives and sees mis-matched handles then thinks it is our manufacturing process that caused it. Of course, the same can be said for those who decide to re-grind their knives, remove coatings, etc. but those are a little more obvious than handle fit.

Will there be an option to send a knife back and have another set of handles fitted?

We are discussing that as well but here's the problem: When we do a run of knives we match the handles to that run of knives since the laser can vary a few thousandths of an inch. The CNC machining center that makes the handle slabs is then offset to compensate for the laser variance. Fit is checked repeatedly throughout the manufacturing process and offsets made to adjust for any "growth" or shrinkage. So, this is not a "hand-fit" process. With all that said, if we did offer to re-fit a set of handles then it would most likely have to be done by hand since it's a single set of handles and the cost would be higher than I would want to charge you.

In light of all the problems, I think the best solution is to just increase the combinations available:). Of course, the green canvas scales on the OD blade should go to the top of the list:D.

Don't forget orange scales on a black blade...

OhMyGawd. I've been waiting for the RC4 orange scales....but if there's a chance of an orange/black combination, I'll pay extra $$ to git it if necessary!!!!!!

Yep, this is what I am would like. I am just not a fan of OD blades. I will probably buy a standard RC4 because I like the grey handles and black blade, but I think I would like the orange handles, black blade the best.

I'm (unfortunately?!)gonna be one of the "modders" and strip it. I really love the patina that 1095 gets.

I'm planning on doing the same with one of the desert tan with green canvas slabs. I think the green canvas and a patinaed (if that's a word:rolleyes:) blade will look awesome.
