All, we've had a little bit of confusion on the multitude of ways the RC-4 sheath can be configured. We are working on new instruction sheets now with pictures.

The sheath comes from the factory with 3 screws in it. We've already had emails from folks thinking they're missing a screw. They're not. If you use the sheath without a MOLLE back or without the included MOLLE locks (such as lashing it to your belt with the enclosed paracord) then you have to move the top screw from the spine side of the sheath to one of the opposite side holes to make the lockup tight enough on your knife. Tension will vary depending on which hole you use and how tight you tighten the screw. All of this is part of the design.

The sheath is designed to be carried in these fashions (left hand or right hand):

1) With MOLLE back (normal mode)
2) With MOLLE back, inverted carry (when using Velcro strap and elastic pommel cover)
2) With MOLLE locks (vertical)
3) With MOLLE locks (horizontal)
4) Lashed through the sheath holes and around a belt with the enclosed paracord and held in place with the cord lock

If you are using the sheath with the MOLLE locks then the rubber washer goes between the MOLLE Lock and the sheath. Compress it to about 1/2 of it's thickness when you tighten. DO NOT use the rubber washers with the MOLLE back. ONLY carry in inverted mode (upside down) when using the MOLLE back and extra retentions (velcro strap, pommel cover) included on the MOLLE back

Besides using the paracord to lash the sheath, you can also use it for a lanyard.

Again, this may sound confusing but Shon Rowen , Mike and I are working on a detailed instruction sheet with pictures. Should have that finished by Monday and up on the web. It will also be included in the packaging on future orders from the factory.

Thanks, I just came home from lunch and found my RC-4 between my storm door and front door, UPS had came while I was out!

First impressions are WOW....a lot of thought went into this knife! The handles are some of the most comfortable micarta scales I have handled.

Being a simple person, I like method 4. I hate MOLLE locks and overly complicated and bulky sheaths, but I can see their use for military personnel.

I think this is right. It works.

I probably will lash it straight to my outdoor gear bag, as I rarely carry fixed blades on me, except for neck knives.

The RC4 rig has a very versatile sheath - I'm still getting used to all of the attachment options.

A Tek Lok can be mounted pretty easily by reversing the screw and barrel from the way you might usually install your Tek Lok. Place your screws on the inside of the Tek Lok itself, and run the barrels in from the outside of the sheath, on the middle two holes (spine side works best). I've got mine set up w/ a Tek Lok on one side and Molle Loks on the other - which makes it easy to have your rig attached to a pack, and then move it directly to your belt if your downgrade your pack without having to change attachments.

I used the silver barrels that are supplied w/ the Tek Loks, but the black barrels supplied w/ the sheath should work just fine. I have one of my Molle loks attached with 2 screws, the other with 1. With plenty of screw holes and several attachment options, this one of the most versatile sheaths I've ever used.

I don't have time to make a long post now, but I got my RC-4 in today and took a few pictures.

I had a sheath question when I got it - before I got online today - and left a msg. with Mike on the voice line.

When I got online, I found this thread and sent an e-mail with another question regarding the sheath. Jeff replied within 10 minutes to me and when I was sending him a reply back, Mike called.

What customer service!

I am totally impressed - by product, customer service, and the individuals themselves!

I am totally happy with this purchase and look forward to really using it.

I'll post some pics later after I get them uploaded.

Thanks Mike and Jeff!

WOW!

We'll say it again....our customers truly mean EVERYTHING to us. Without the customer RAT Cutlery is nothing. We appreciate the guy that gets one of our knives in trade as much as we do the large dealer buying a ton of our knives. Yall are ALL customers and ALL deserve to be treated with total respect. It's just the way we do business.

Can ask a question then. Why did you guys pic this sheath and not make something similar to the RC-3 and the RC-6? Thats been on my chest God knows how long. Maybe I missed it in another post or soemthing. I dont really like this sheath for the RC-4 at all to tell you the truth.

WTF: that's easy to answer...... $ 8,000 would be the answer. That's about what it costs to do a mold for a molded sheath like the 3 and 6. We figured if we were going to spend that much money, might as well put it into a sheath for the large knife since they're so rare on that size knife and so many people have asked us to do this style sheath on the RAT-7.

No, Blade-Tech does injection molding and the only thing "custom" about molded sheaths is the mold that make them. Someone else is doing the Kydex folded sheaths on the RC-4.

Blade Tech in Washington state do the RC3 and RC6 sheaths. To my knowledge they do not do 'one-ofs' custom work. It would be about impossible to do custom one of work when a mold can run between $6 and 20 thousand dollars. They make great folders and lots of different injection molded parts like the RC3-6 sheaths. No Kydex. You can find them set up at most shows like SHOT and Blade in Atlanta. Mike

I just received my RC-4 today. You guys did a great job. I thought the rc-3,6 sheath was pretty nice compared to the rc-4. After having the sheath in hand my opinion has changed. I think it's great. It's functional, tough and durable.

I'm also much more impressed w/ the RC4 sheath and its versatility now that I have it in hand than when I saw it in pictures.

Well,
As a true blue devoted coustomer who owns most of your knives, I like the kydex much better than the molded ones. I carry all of my medium size knives horizontally on my left belt with a tek lok. I got my RC-4 wednesday and I love the green liners. This knife does what a knife is supposed to do and puts its "space" usage where it sould be. No Huge handles (Sorry TAK-1). The larger handles are great for a RAT-7 or RC-6, but with a 4" knife if is more likely to be carried (hence used) with the size handle you have.
Looking forward to more knives.
