Ive had my RC-4 for a year and a half now and for some reason the sheath is loosing retention. i was wondering if you guys have some insight on how to tighten it up. ive thought about vice gripping the bottom of the sheath near the knife end where the extra retention hole is and easily taking a torch to it to melt it a lil. tell me what you guys think.

I haven't noticed anything yet, but I've only had my RC-4 since July. Maybe some of the kydex benders can chime in. I think Shotgunner11 is one, maybe he knows what would help. Might be better to buy a new sheath.

now that ive been looking at it i think it may of been where i have tightened the molle locks on it too tight is has warped the kydex a bit...

This is odd. I've never run into a problem with retention is RC sheaths. Actually I thought that thanks to the retention screw that you can reposition that it would be impossible to lose grip. Just simply move it to a different hole nearer the handle, further up the sheath and presto. If you can, take a picture or two of how you have your sheath set up. Maybe we can see and point out what to do different.

As a side note, I made several kydex sheaths and have used them for a long time. The only time i ever ran into trouble with them is if i had forces acting in another direction or if the sheath got damaged. Other than that, the seem pretty stable to me forever. Pretty much any kydex, injection molded plastic, etc. should last for a REALLY long time without any problems.

the retention hole is in the position next to the knife. the kydex has a very slight bow to it like i said i may have tightened one of the molle clips tooooo much and it has warped the sheath. i don't have a digital camera at the moment my blew up (i dropped it in lake Michigan) i havnt pulled out my knife is about 3 months because of college and work but it has been laying in my gear box for about that time period.

need to see a picture.... Never heard of an issue w/ the RC4 sheath, I had mine a long time and no issues on my end.

well i went ahead and tweaked it a little with some fire and pliers and its working fine now. my tinkering side just couldn't leave it alone. Im sure it was user error on my part that caused this. thanks Dylside, Grover6 and TTD for the help.

Do you think it's possible you had it under some tension from the molle lock or something else and it got to warm like in a hot car or near a heat vent?

hoopster that is very plausable. i honestly dont know what happened to it. but with some heat and a little tlc ive got it clicking up just like it was when i bought it!
