RC-5 Blade?

I just finished taking the original black coating off of my new RC-5; useing Klean Coat stripper. Sprayed it on, wrapped it in Saran wrap and 45 minutes later, the black paint literally fell off...very easy job. Under that black coating however was not bare metal, but rather a gray colored blade. I sprayed again with Klean Coat, but still it looks as though it has a kind of satin grey finish? I like it, no complaints there, but so much for vinegar and mustard patina process; I wish I could attach photos to show you this blade, and will ty to do that. Was wondering if anyone else had experienced this, or could shed some light what's going on.

My RC4 has the gray underneath too. I did this same thing to a RAT 3 and it was metal underneath not the gray you described. Unless someone has a better idea I am going to keep using it. I have a feeling that the gray will not be as tough as the black. When enough gray is scratched I will just sand her clean and use Bar Tenders Powder. It gets it nice and dark.

They leave the finish rough to provide a good bonding surface for the powder coat. If you want to brighten it up, just hit with some sandpaper. I did the same thing to my RC-3 about a year ago. :)

Then I hit it with gun blue.

I wondered if this was some type of bondng agent for the powder coat. Thanks for the explanations. Useing the Klean Coat, the powder coat came off so easily, that the under coat is pretty cool looking, not a scratch on it. I wish I hadn't seen the gun blue blade though...now I want to try that on a blade I was content with 5 minutes ago.

BAD ASS FortyTwoBlades.

I'm a sucker for the Tan blade. I was cringing at first when I looked at the pics, but it came out pretty sick.

Well, as you can see in the first pic, I had wailed on it pretty hard up to that point! I figured I owed it a little touch-up. ;) It isn't the most durable coating, but it only takes about 15 minutes to reapply when it gets really bad. I just haven't bothered since I like the rustic brown-black patina that it developed through the scratches in the blueing. If there's one thing for sure, it's that my RC-3 has a hell of a lot of character now! :p

To each his own, but I rather enjoy wearing the paint off with use rather than purposely. Gives my blade character and proves I actually use it. :D That said, I do like what you did FortyTwoBlades to yours, I like the blueing. That would have been badass if the logo would have stayed.
